Schumer Wants to Know Motivation Behind NSA Leak

WASHINGTON — The investigation into who leaked information about a National Security Agency secret wiretapping program on potential terror suspects needs to focus on the motivation behind the leak, a Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Sunday.

"There are differences between felons and whistleblowers, and we ought to wait 'til the investigation occurs to decide what happened," Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., told "FOX News Sunday."

The Justice Department on Friday opened an investigation into who leaked the information about the program, sparking debate over its threat to national security and presidential powers versus civil liberties.

The program, first revealed Dec. 16 by The New York Times, has used surveillance to review phone conversations and e-mails inside the United States without court warrants since after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

President Bush defended the program on Sunday, saying it is necessary and legal to prevent future terrorist attacks.

One word: politics. Does Schumer really think he can sell us the BS that this leak was done for some high-minded purpose?

In that case... The person who leaked Plame's name was a "whistleblower."

The fact that the Times SAT on the story for almost a year...ought to be enough worry alot of liberal senators. There is no rational explanation except that their reporter was going forward with his book and they'd look like fools if this came out that they held it for a year. Now that they've released it...they still look like fools...but at least its liberal fools.

"I believe Chukey fears jail sufficiently enough to have not participated in espionage against NSA."

Yes but not the the reason you may think. There are no TV cameras connected to the MSM in prison. Remember the most dangerous spot in the world is to be standing between up-Chucky and a TV camera.

".....Longing for the good old days when the law meant something."

Yep, at my age ---- that's my reference point..

As a matter of fact, I'm so damned old that I still consider taking up arms in civil revolt!.

Hope I live long enough to see our Republic saved from the current pack of feckless imbeciles and a$$holes.

Look, you can be a whistleblower with classified information. You just must blow the whistle to those with clearance to hear the information.

Since Democrats were informed of this NSA program, they were the ones responsible for blowing the whistle on its legality. They said nothing because they felt it was not in violation of any law.

By leaking this to the public, the entire country is in jeopardy. That is not whistleblowing, that is treason.

There's no evidence that we should believe the NYT as they seek to pass off responsibility for the espionage to others.
