You misunderstand, white house documents and in particular the tapes made of all conversations in the oval office at the time, showed that Nixon truly BELIEVED that communists had infiltrated the democratic party, with the intent of overthrowing the country from within.

In other words, he wasn't just using Presidential power to hurt his political enemies (as the MSM has spun it all these years), he sincerely believed (and rightly so) that the communists were to blame for most of the social upheaval that was occurring in the country at the time.

That "belief" alone was enough to justify his actions under our constitution. Enemy combatants whether they be foreign or domestic, lose all constitutional protections. In other words a soldier in a war doesn't have to read the enemy his rights or assume they are innocent until proven guilty, or convey to them any other right a citizen would usually have in any other non-warfare related situation.

Fitz is still the special prosecuter investigating the Valerie Plame case, correct? Why can we just expand his scope and start looking into this?
Just throw the reporters in jail till they spill the beans!

Don't need to. Since high Administration officials aren't being investigated, this can be handled directly by the Justice Department without a Special Prosecutor, which is what is happening.
