If we told you that an organization gave away more than $65 million last year to Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, Amnesty International, AIDS Walk Washington and dozens of other such advocacy groups, you'd probably assume we were describing a liberal philanthropy. In fact, those expenditures have all turned up on the financial disclosure report of the National Education Association, the country's largest teachers union.

Why isn't "tax-exempt" status open to review? I would think an audit like this would kill such a status right away for such a politically partisan group.

But I'm sure that ain't gonna happen.

I am sickened too, as this is our property tax $$. I'd like to take a poll at my school district and see how many teachers know where their union dollars are going.

You might be surprised what teachers know about what their precious unions do. The unions are teachers protection, and protection is what they deliver. Maybe taxpayers need to form their own union.

Many of the organization's disbursements--$30,000 to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, $122,000 to the Center for Teaching Quality--at least target groups that ostensibly have a direct educational mission. But many others are a stretch, to say the least. The NEA gave $15,000 to the Human Rights Campaign, which lobbies for "lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equal rights." The National Women's Law Center, whose Web site currently features a "pocket guide" to opposing Supreme Court nominee Sam Alito, received $5,000. And something called the Fund to Protect Social Security got $400,000, presumably to defeat personal investment accounts.

Hillary's base - It’s notable how unquestioningly the MSM accepts the idea that Hillary is now truly a centrist... To keep her base, Hillary is Bear Baiting with a constant stream of propaganda hiding her otherwise Marxist and Third Way decisions.

I promptly printed this out and distributed to my fellow teachers who've been denying this for years.

Yep those Unions. Just there to protect the worker. I think unions were a good idea but it's a good idea that has gotten WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off track.

NEA is liberalism in its base form. Some people are more equal than the rest and public education has become a massive taxpayer rip off.

I am just glad that the union is supporting the workers instead of...oh I am sorry. My mistake. I thought that the union worked for the teachers and that the dues we paid were for us...

.........................................................

They know...but prefer to stay quiet for 2 reasons: they are also in on the take big time and second, speaking up will result in big time trouble.

Then there are those who support these far left orgs and secular groups.

The only way to undermine and destroy this cancer - the NEA - is to get those vouchers/tax breaks up and going everywhere! That is the silver bullet and will irreparably harm the public school monopoly.

Nope, unions were a great idea until the Warner Act, the Taft-Hartley Act, and a few more like it, were passed.

The demise began as soon as companies were forced by law to deal exclusively with unions - ie they couldn't hire replacements when unions went on strike.

Back in the '70's', long before victimization became so entrenched in society, the NEA had a committe for every insignificant segment of ethnicity you can thnk of. It was almost comical. And then when that wasn't enough they started breaking each of those down between gay and straight. So you had committees for (this is no joke)Straight Aluets and Lesbian Aluets, Gay South Pacific Islanders and Straight SPI, Lesbian native non-micronesian Polynesian Hawaiins(sp?)(my personal favorite) and Straight NNMPH and so on. I am not jacking you around here, my ex wife was a big pro-union teacher and local organizer(her sister and B-i-L are still union lawyers)I have been in the belly of the beast and it is not pretty. We used to get the NEA rag each month. It was hoot. A whole newspaper dedicated to nothing other than balkanize the nation and their own organization.

The union that supposedly represents me and other teachers is so corrupt that I didn't even join at my current school. Most of us aren't members of the union, either. The only thing that the union really provides is insurance against unfair charges of sexual harassment, something that can be obtained without the rest of the political baggage from the union. The NEA is the ideal poster child of Gramsci's idea of the "long march through the institutions" in their fervent support of a narrow leftwing ideology. Meanwhile, the rest of us are down here in the trenches trying to undo the damage done by the NEA and their fellow travelers.

What you describe is no surprise, and unfortunately the majority of teachers love their social club. My all time favorite was discovering that within the union contract was the agreement the teachers were only required to have one meeting a year with parents.

Teachers have reason to be 'afraid' of lawsuit happy parents, cause these parents for the most part were taught in unionized school districts.

I think I have the problem fixed, and will gladly re-add your name.

Taxpayer's union. That's a great idea. The first one, Congress, didn't pan out, so maybe we do need a new one.
