The spin has begun! Already heard this morning that DeLay & Co. are going down. Libs fail to admit that Harry "The Body" Reid and a host of Democraps were implicated too!

CNN reporting that Abramoff actually has been co-operating with the justice department for a year. He likely won't do the full 10 years if he rats out a bunch of congressmen and hill staff members. Democrats are involved too. This is a bi-partisan scandal.

This is a bi-partisan scandal.

Certainly, the GOP isn't immune to wrongdoing-- Duke Cunningham a recent example. The Keating scandal hit both parties, too. They should all be weeded out.

This will become an interest event and impact the 06 elections on a national level I believe. No one knows at this stage what Abramoff is giving up to the prosecutors nor all those that are involved. It certainly has the potential to change some of the faces on Capitol Hill come Jan. 07, imo.

Absolutely! It has become the norm for politicians main focus in congress to be raising money and getting reelected. It is time to try to rein them in, regardless of the party.

Step right up and speak to moi.

\ For last night I spent two hours reading up on Abramoff.

This story is so deep and, except for the murder, rather amusing.

As a world renown Blogger I must keep up on such things, insert wink here.

I suspect that Abramoff's plea of ten years is about the murder. No, he didn't exactly kill anyone but one of his buddies did and Abramoff was involved in the planning or the coverup.

Ladies and gems, Jack Abramoff is about as sleazy as they come. What's more disturbing is how easily he got congress critters to do the silliest stuff.

Heads up, folks. This is gonna be flying directly in the radar as, frankly, it should. And every congress critter involved with this guy should resign. Sorry if that includes Republicans.

Democrats don't have the lock on stupidity, sad to say.

That's why I preach to only send a Congress person or Senator to Washington Doesn't Care for only ONE term...you prevent this type of stuff...

You look at Kennedy, how many YEARS has he been there??? And you can bet he has had his palm greased alot of times..

Send your people to ONE term, keep them honest and the Goverment will work for US like it's suppost to.....

I heard it was for the way the boats (to be used as gambling casinos) were purchased. I do understand the guy who originally owned them was later murdered.

Dorgan returned money received from Abramoff

So did almost everybody.

And btw, that headline is misleading. Abramoff is not a close associate of Tom Delay. No more than he's a close associate of any other congress critter who got involved with this idiot. Y'all just got to read his story. He's a charlatan and a cheat. And he had congress critters jumping through hoops.

Aw man, you're teasing me.

But you're right. It's about the boats. And you're right again, the guy who owned the boats was murdered. Write down this name...Adam Kadin.

Him and Abramoff got involved in the silliest escapade by purchasing those casino boats. They forged bank documents, managed to get shit put in the congressional record, then finally the original owner of the floating casinos was murdered.

Another hint, Kadin gives over a hundred grand to a mobster, the same mobster who murdered the boat owner. Kadin says it was for the guy catering his sister's wedding or some such. Only there was no wedding. Oh, and a bunch of money going to the OTHER mobster who murdered the original boat owner. Hmmmmmm.

Abramoff and Kadin were business partners in this venture. It's really a fascinating story.

Not to mention how Abramoff ripped off Indian tribes in their quest to get casinos. With the help of congress critters who really need to go.

Look at states with big Indian populations for a clue to what congress critters might be involved.

I know of one name and I hope I remember this right. Name is DEY....from Ohio.

New Mexico, I'm thinking. Definately the Dakotas. I'm thinking Daschle's got some splaining to do. Florida.

I'll take that bet and raise you 5!

Please remember that only Republican politicians have been implicated in illegal activity involving Abramoff so far. RNC talking points try to implicate Dems, but where's the beef?

Abramoff's closest political contacts were Grover Nordquist, Ralph Reed, and Tom DeLay, all Republicans. The last elected officials to go down were Duke Cunningham (R, CA) and Gov. Bob Taft (R, OH). Republican Party is on a roll. Why expect them to stop now?

I mean go to hell. They get a big contribution during an election year. Then, yay many years later, they return the contribution. When they've got freshly filled coffers and no impending campaign to finance.

It's a PR stunt. "WE returned all monies given," they spout righteously.

They must really think we're stupid out here in la-la land.

My solution is slightly different.

Congressman should be limited to a total of 8 years. Their first term is 4 years, and after that they can have up to two more terms, two years each.

The first long term is to give them the time to accomplish the agenda they were elected for without having to raise money and spend time campaigning. The two remaining 2 year terms are useful for extending their stay to finish up what they started, while allowing us to replace them rather easily without having to wait four years.

Senators should get two 6 year terms, maybe three. I'd really like to see Senator selection returned to the State legislatures, or maybe a compromise with one Senatorial seat elected by the people, and the other selected by the legislature.

Some good ideas.

But if you think incumbents are going to pass these laws I got a bridge to sell you.

What is needed is for one Freshman in the House of Lords, I'm thinking that guy who replaced Daschle, to introduce a bill to limit terms.

Then let the public see Lord Teddy and Lord Byrd yelp and squeal. My guess, especially after this Abramoff scandal hits, is that the public will endorse term limits.

That's just the thing, voters can but probably won't. Not with the huge advantage that being an incumbent of several terms gives a Congresscritter in outspending any challenger.

I agree.

If I remember my history, the founders of our country expected people from all walks of life to be elected to congress, serve for awhile and then return to what they did before. Now, for the most part, we elect lawyers who become professional politicians for life.

Rare is the statesman we have representing us.

This will be REAL campaign finance reform - finally.

No law about political contributions will ever have the force of finally enforcing existing bribery laws. When Howard Berman is led out of the Capitol in handcuffs, when Fritz Hollings goes to prison, then and only then will things change.
