Some members of the governor's staff will return from the three-day holiday on Tuesday to newly renovated offices at the State Capitol. Shortly after the two hurricanes, Gov. Kathleen Blanco decided to renovate some of her staff's offices. At the time of her decision, Blanco also was hinting at deep budget cuts to state programs and the possibility of laying off 20 percent of the state workforce.
The project cost $564,838.
The newly refurbished office space on the sixth floor of the State Capitol includes hookups and mounts for two flat screen televisions, Swedish granite countertops, walnut paneling and frosted laminated glass. The floor, which will not be accessible to the public, was redesigned to add three new offices, a conference room and file storage areas. The week before work began, Blanco ordered a spending and hiring freeze to rein in state government expenses.

What a bitch. Nero-Blanco rides again.
I certainly hope she gets voted out.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
She should be thrown out of the state head first. What a jerk!
That's a big class/race warfare card being played by Democrats with regards to post-Katrina spending.
Well Blanco? Where did the money go...

That's beyond stupid, really.
Love to see a MSM reporter grow a set and report if she did or didn't.
Mark my words: she and Nagin will demagogue themselves to a comfortable reelection.
Some people of honor for that state need to stand up and expose them for the sake of their state.
Just feathering her extended nest with taxpayer funds....and this in the face of destruction from Katrina... your govt. leaders at work Lousianans....how this blithering fool got elected is beyond me.
Can this woman really be this lacking in intelligence to simply parade her spending the way she has?
She sure is a sweetie pie isn't she? I hope your voters kick her out!
You left out who the spending was for...
"About 20 members of the governor's staff who focus on constituent services, children's issues, women's policies and other functions will work on the newly restored floor."
It was for the women and children...
Hey, the 3rd times the charm don'tcha see.
Besides it's been more than four hours since the last posting.
"The coffee room in the northwest corner was modernized. "
always good to have a modern coffee room when discussing all those poor folks who are without holmes.
Have you seen the fools that are getting elected to all levels of government? And the fools that do the electing?
That's why, for years now, I've been encouraging rational people of good will to just ignore stupid laws. You can't fall for the "obey the law, or work to change it" crap anymore - there are too many idiots responding to too many idiots pestering them, passing too many idiotic laws - you won't live long enough to make a dent that way.
Prohibition ended when prosecutors couldn't get convictions anymore - the people had had enough. We need to do that some more. A lot more.
The stupid new smoking law in WA state is a good example; I don't know anyone who gives a sh@# about it.
"With copy machines in the halls and files stacked in corners, "it really wasn't very efficient," Wilson said."
Look, it was just done so they could be more ... ahem ... effective and efficient ... ahem ... with their coffee breaks.
