Britain seeking Polish Muslims as halal butchers

WARSAW (AFP) - After dentists, nurses, bus drivers, catering workers and handful of plumbers, Britain is now turning to Poland to fill a gap in its market for Muslim halal butchers, an ad posted in Poland said.
The ad, published on the website of Poland's Association of Muslims and in the press in the northeastern Bialystok region, home to a sizeable Muslim community in overwhelmingly Roman Catholic Poland, was seeking to recruit "Muslims... who pray five times a day and adhere to the principles of halal cuisine, with no pork or alcoholic beverages."
They were needed to work in traditional Muslim butchers' shops in Britain "for 40 to 60 hours a week for a wage of five to seven pounds (7.25 - 10.20 euros, 8.80 - 12.30 dollars) per hour, depending on experience."
Neither the Polish nor British bureaus of the Polco job agency which posted the ad would comment to AFP on where the jobs were based, whether any applications had been received and what benefits were on offer to successful applicants.
Britain was one of only three older EU members that fully opened their job markets to workers from new member states in the former communist bloc.
More than 290,000 eastern Europeans have applied to work in Britain since their countries joined the European Union in May 2004, figures published in November by the British government showed.
Most applicants were from Poland, accounting for 58.0 percent of the total.
Poland's Muslim community numbers between 20,000 and 25,000 out of a total population of around 38 million.
Around one-quarter of Polish Muslims are descendants of Tatars who fled the Mongol warrior Genghis Kahn over 600 years ago, many settling in Poland's Bialystok region, near the border with Belarus.

My grandmother was from Bialystok.....I don't recall her metioning anything about Muslims in Poland. Ever.

How about this:
A shortage of halal butchers should encourage British muslims to enter the trade, whioch would make them businessmen who had a lot to lose by fooling around with militant Islam, and thus, should pacify them.
Or...
The lack of halal butchers would make Britain less attractive to Muslims and they would stop emigrating, or, convince the ones already there that since they cannot get halal food, perhaps leaving for a place where they can get it is a good idea.
Perhaps we should outlaw halal in this country...
LOL. Next time they will like to get better recruitment results they should ask about Polish rabbis or better black Polish football players (Olisadebe is going to play in Premiership I've heard).

The only reason that I know that we have Muslims in Poland is these above mentioned statistics. This is good sign and speak well about them. So you need to show more respect for my compatriots I think.

I can't imagine this is about anything other than increasing Britains Muslim population, albeit in a very small way. None of my business I suppose, but good riddance.

The membership of the Association is around 5,000 Muslims-Polish citizens of Tartar descent."

They're of Tartar descent meaning most are descentants of a Turkic-Mongoloid peoples of Eastern Europe and Central Asia who assimilated into the local populations of Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Balkans later on.
Strange. I'm sure I saw a mosque when I was in Warsaw.

Hi Vox, I checked with Rafal and Gosia who live in Warsaw. There's a prayer-house there rather than a full sized mosque. I distinctly remember seeing an Islamic-looking building there a few years ago, when we were visiting a Sushi restaurant.
