My friend, Frances Rice is the Chairman of the National Black Republican Association. She is seeking help raising funds for NBRA's Grassroots Outreach.
The NBRA is forming local chapters to build a network of black Republican activists across the country whose growth and activities will be supported by the NBRA.
NBRA will sponsor grassroots campaign training programs, provide educational tool kits to grassroots activists, and conduct forums in black communities nationwide.
In addition to the grassroots activists manual, the tool kit will contain multiple copies of (1) NBRA brochure, (2) NBRA magazine, (3) palm cards about the differences between Republicans and Democrats on values issues (abortion, same-sex marriage, God in the pledge of allegiance, God in the public square, etc.
NBRA needs help to produce their grassroots educational tool kit.

FYI PING.......Co-Sponsor of CPAC requests help with Grassroots Campaign.
Organizing for political activity, by race is un-republican in my opinion.
Organizing for political activity, by race is the stuff of the Klan and the Democrats.
Thanks for your input....the rest of us are going to get back to work.
The NBRA is not restricted by race.....The use of the name is to call attention to the fact that there ARE Black Republicans!
BTW....I am white.
FYI.........BUMP
National Black Republican Association seeks help with Grassroots Campaign.
Actually, organizing by race or religion or any other criteria should BE a Republican ideal: After all, it is a right embodied in our constitution: The freedom of assembly for political redress, First Amendment.
It IS wrong to say only certain groups can organize by certain criteria, however.

***American Blacks definitely deserve a better political legacy than the same old leftover exploitation and demagoguery by the Democrat party. God Speed!
There are groups of votors in this country that are organized and isolated by "identity politics," many of them by race. That's unRepublican and something with which we must struggle.
That struggle is where NBRA and other such organizations come in. They're not organized "by race" (like Julie, I'm white), but exist to confront the identity politics, to educate those held down by those politics, and to show them that Republicans offer them more.

More about the NBRA Chairman.....Frances Rice
I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and retired from the Army in 1984 after 20 years of active service. I received a Bachelor of Science degree from Drury College in 1973, a Masters of Business Administration from Golden Gate University in 1976, and a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1977. I became politically active in 1982 and served as a member of President Ronald Reagan's Private Sector Initiatives Task Force. I worked as a volunteer in the campaigns of Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush, as well as Governor Jeb Bush. I am a co-founder of the SaraMana Black Republican Club and am a Committeewoman representing the Club in the Florida Federation of Black Republicans. I am a member of the Executive Committee of the Republican Party of Sarasota County. Most recently, I became Chairman of the National Black Republican Association, an organization that is committed to returning African Americans to their Republican Party roots. Among the awards I have received during my military career are the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Defense Service Medal and four Army Commendation Medals.
Julia is right. Black republican take a lot of heat for their confictions. They deserve our support.

I'm in. I joined Niger Iness's group too.
Great....thanks so much. Please ping your FReeper Pals to this thread and tell them why you joined.
Both Niger & his father Roy Ennis will be honored at the NBRA's Pioneer Dinner on 2/8/06.
Wonderful the honor is well earned. I have sat in on some of Nigers speeches and discussions at cpac
Of course.
I cringe whenever I see the Republican message, targeted towards any race. The message so be targeted to individuals, with all being welcome.
We should not try to out pander the democrats, again just my opinion, and I may be wrong.
There's nothing wrong with directing the message to someone's frame of reference. It's not adopting their point of view, it's addressing issues in their terms. You seem to want them to accept your frame of reference (Republican individualism) before you'll talk with them.
We should not try to out pander the democrats, again just my opinion, and I may be wrong.
I don't see how NBRA is "pandering." They're not handing out prizes, they're preaching -- and demonstrating -- Republicanism.
Pander[ing]. There's that word again.

Dittohead, Snow Flake, and Bushbot So what of it?

@@@@
It never occured to me that this organization was for blacks only. Usually Republicans get slammed for "not reaching out" to the "black community." Reaching out seems to be what this org. wants to do, and I hope it has great success.
Thanks.....Many white as well as black FReepers have joined the NBRA.
And I hope you will too........please see post #30
It's only $10 and you will get the first issue of their Newsletter with a gorgeous photo of Sec. of State Condi Rice on the cover.

Sent this article (found on FR) last week to a young friend of mine:
http://capitolhilljournal.com/art000000051.html
Here was his response:
lol...u a crazy Ms ***..lol. That was an interesting article, however, it is interesting how the writer never makes the statement that although the Republican party of Abe Lincoln were for Blacks......that is not the same Republican party that we now have in today's parties. They have made a dramatic shift since 1865! Mainly after the Reconstruction period. But that was very interesting!!
When I wrote back, and asked, "after Reconstruction?" and a couple general non-political personal inquiries-I got no response to that question.

Haven't been pinged yet...so thanks for the ping! :-)
Yes, this makes sense, to show folks they're individuals and are free to behave as such.
The whole approach of using identity politics to fight identity politics makes me nervous.
I would like to see Republicans identified as merely Republicans, not White Republicans or as Black Republicans because their philosophies should be grounded in individual rights, not group rights.
Your race may be a great reason to have a party, but is the worst reason to form a party.
If the group is trying to bend GOP principles to get votes, that's pandering.
OTOH, if they are sharing Republican values and asking them to support those values within the Party, we need more of it.
That said, I will have to check their site to see which values they promote. Being Republican can mean absolutely anything.
Good photo ... elegant!
