It's been a difficult week for the families of the Sago mine disaster. Now, a 15 member group is coming to Upshur County to protest the miners' funerals.
They're from Topeka, Kansas. They're a radical religous group known as the "Westboro Baptist Church".
This is a statement from their most recent press release:
" Thank God for the lightning bolt that caused the explosion that trapped the Sago miners. God killed them and cast them into hell. "
Local authorities say the group has the right to express their opinions, but are sad to see the families go through this. There are also reports of other groups forming to protest the church members.
any claim to being a religious group is blasphemy after reading that little piece.
I think this guy must be some kind of liberal performer, trying to make some kind of point about fundementalists.
I'd like to see ole Fred and crew dropped down a mine shaft for the good of humanity.
They used to protest only homosexual activities. Now they rejoice when anything bad happens to anyone?
Aside from being a complete and utter whack job, why on earth is he protesting these miners, most of whom might have been good Baptists?

Where are the Molly McGuires when you need them? (19th C. PA coalfield thugs)
I do so want to see the greeting he and his crowd of cult loons get from the UMW members.
It's not even a question. He's hosted fundraisers for Algore and maybe Kerry. There are pictures. He's out there to try to make the right look bad, and the media is all too willing to help.
Oh, they're going because of gays; take a look at this piece of crap:

If I were the West Virginia State Patrol, I'd be struck deaf and blind the entire time these A$$HOLES are in that state.
these people are repulsive
The Phelps family claim to be a church which gives them tax exempt status, but a little research shows that nearly all of the family including extended members are lawyers, and the Westboro Baptist Church operates as a defacto law office, using the power of litigation to overturn the applecart of society. Why Kansas criminal investigators haven't shut down their operation is a mystery.
Fred makes radical gay activists look respectable... and sane.

I refuse to call these people anything but an evil cult.
See #11.
In WV?!? Phelps better have some out of state protection. This isn't your run of the mill funeral. This is a very small town of very, very closeknit people. He and his group of fruits may very well find out what righteous anger really is
This account has been banned or suspended.
This guy is about as Baptist as David Koresh. Unlike other denominations, anyone can buy a church building and call it a "baptist" church. He is not in any way connected to the legitimate Baptist denominations out there.
LOL....me too.......take a look at their flier in #11.
"Officer, I think I overheerd one of them Baptists say somethin' about selling some of their drugs to raise money for the trip home."
He's fixing to run into some real Baptists.
The alternative explanation is all about Phelps, and all of it is execrable.
This guy is beyond "whack-job."
/shaking my head
For some reason, even the smallest infraction, is enough to ban me for a week.
Honestly, kstweskis, I could hardly believe my eyes when I read that. And I am not easily upset.
But there for just one second, I actually could have done something REALLY bad to these people -- and then gone right back to filing my nails, never giving it another thought.
LOL........I was talking about WHAT you might say........LOL.
The Courts should keep protestors at least as far from furnerals, as they keep them from abortion clinics. Fair is fair.
And they think they do God a favor not realizing they're nothing but obnoxious, poisonous snakes. They're emotionally deaf and their hearts are quickly growing in cruelty all in the name of morality. I guess this group would have been angry at Jesus for not reading the moral riot act to the woman at the well. Jesus addressed her heart's thirst knowing that was the key to her shipwrecked desire.
On the other hand, two members have made comments worthy of a USSC visit and all that happened was their posts were deleted.
I'm as confused as you are........this makes no sense.
It makes me wonder who (or what) he's boppin', to make him spew out like he does.
I am Birdy Edwards, but damned if I know what happened to Mr. Phelps.
No sense, at all.
And take a swig of Pepto before you do. It'll make sense to you then.
Funny how the news reports never mention that fred is a registered RAT.
These seething dopes do realize that there are alot of hunters in WV. With hunters comes guns and bows. Phelps and the gang may soon be mounted on the front of some locals pickup. It's not good to mess with the country folk.
Oh, if only dueling was legal.
That's what I was thinking. These people must have some type of death wish.
I just looked at it. I wish I hadn't.
Some day Phelps and his spawn are going to push somebody over the edge who will open a big can of whoop-ass on them.
One of these days they'll find people with axe handles and 2' lengths of coaxial cable in their hands waiting for them and nary a police officer in sight.
Well, that means it's an Ambien night...
Sometimes I think these wackos are in the business just to give religion a bad name.
As one "Dawg" to another........you are exactly right! *~*
Yes, he is a longtime Demonrat activist whose congregation includes only people who share something like 37% or 63% of his DNA.
When I read things like that, I always TRY to imagine the state of mind you'd have to be in to even THINK those kinds of things, much less print them on a sheet of letterhead paper.
I am just at a loss to what kind of people they are. (Thank God.)
>> Oh, they're going because of gays; take a look at this piece of crap: <<
Looks like they will be at all disasters now... That document made no ties between the miners and gays, other than they inhabit the same land.
Message to SBC: They're coal miners, not sh!+ miners.
Goes to prove that there is nothing beneath a Demonrat activist.
