Utah megaplex balks at 'Brokeback' Monday, January 9, 2006; Posted: 2:57 a.m. EST (07:57 GMT) A sign posted at a Utah theatre informs patrons that "Brokeback Mountain" will not be shown. Image: SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (AP) -- A movie theater owned by Utah Jazz owner Larry Miller abruptly changed its screening plans and decided not to show the film "Brokeback Mountain." The film, an R-rated Western gay romance story, was supposed to open Friday at the Megaplex at Jordan Commons in Sandy, a suburb of Salt Lake City. Instead it was pulled from the schedule. A message posted at the ticket window read: "There has been a change in booking and we will not be showing 'Brokeback Mountain.' We apologize for any inconvenience." Cal Gunderson, manager of the Jordan Commons Megaplex, declined to comment. The film, starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, is about two cowboys who discover feelings for one another. The two eventually marry women but rekindle their relationship over the years. The movie's distributor, Focus Features, said that hours before opening, the theater management "reneged on their licensing agreement," and refused to open the film. Gayle Ruzicka, president of the conservative Utah Eagle Forum, said not showing the film set an example for the people of Utah. "I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show," she said. Mike Thompson, executive director of the gay rights advocacy group Equality Utah, called it disappointing. "It's just a shame that such a beautiful and award-winning film with so much buzz about it is not being made available to a broad Utah audience because of personal bias," he said.

I guess the folks around there weren't intersted in seeing buggering cowboys.
Good, as a free nation, its nice to see that some managers/ceos show some ounce of morality in their selections instead of just being the pusher for any and all of Hollypervs dope.
Looks like the young 'uns will have get the back-of-the-store DVD to see buggery.
The film would also probably lose money on every showing.
Why show that when an extra theater showing almost anything else would bring in a larger audience?
...and hopefully in a whole lot of other places as well.
C'mon on! You mean this theatre owner is not willing to bend over and take it?
...Is that Globe or Globes?
Most folks in Utah aint worried about getting a good buzz going.
They aren't cowboys, they are sheepherders.
Salute to Larry Miller for not swallowing the H'weird hype on this insult to all.
Note to Hollywood: This faggot crap is not going to fly in "flyover country".
It takes an old dog to love an old dog, and the only people interested in seeing this crap are faggots, lesbians and a few of their friends and relatives. Actually, most of their friends and relatives can't stand the queer lifestyle. It is possible to like a person while hating what they do.
Not true, I was very suprised when this summer My family wase in Salt Lake City for a few days and were suprised at how many gays there were. Nice clean reasonable city but loads of gays.
Guess if you are gay and in Utah it is better to be in Salt Lake then in say, Grouse Creek which I have a feeling isn't too liberal.
You are right. Salt Lake City has a very vocal active gay and lesbian community.
Who attended Brokeback Mountain?
