Please read the information below and pass it along if you know anyone who is currently feeding their dog Diamond Pet Food because over 100 dogs have died since the recall in December!
Even though Diamond, Country Value and Professional brand dog foods have been recalled for containing highly toxic aflatoxins, they have caused at least 100 dog deaths in recent weeks, say Cornell University veterinarians, who are growing increasingly alarmed.
While dogs keep dying from eating pet food tainted with aflatoxin, Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine is announcing it has developed protein tests that accurately indicate a dog's liver failure caused by the toxin.
Dog owners may want to seek veterinary testing for animals that have been fed affected lots of food even if they are apparently well. Recent experience has shown that apparently healthy dogs can develop liver damage after 2-3 weeks.
Diamond Pet Food has set up a website and toll free phone number to answer all questions relating to the recall. Information can be found at: Diamond Pet Food Recall http://www.diamondpetrecall.net/
We hope that this information can save some lives by reaching those who were not aware of the recall or the terrible impact it has had. Our thoughts go out to those that have lost their beloved dogs and hope the suffering is brought to a halt with increased coverage of this story.

Thank you for posting this. For some reason I do not understand Diamond seems to be unable to get broad coverage of this problem.
Virtually all of the info I've seen on this came from dog breeder news lists, etc.

Dog Deaths Surpass 100 Despite Toxic Pet Food Recall At least 100 dogs in the United States have been killed in recent weeks by toxic pet food despite a recall of the products, scientists said today. Some 19 brands of Diamond, Country Value and Professional dog foods have been recalled. But many pet owners are not aware of the recall, researchers at Cornell University said Friday.Dogs have refused to eat the food and, in some cases, their owners have enticed them with gravy and other lures without knowing they were killing the animals."Entire kennels have been wiped out, and because of...

Diamond brand dog food recalled after toxin detected in 23 states. Contaminated dog food which was sold in 23 states killed nearly two dozen dogs and sickened 18 more, the Food and Drug Administration said Friday. The deaths and illnesses sparked an FDA investigation into the pet food made by the Diamond Pet Food Company at its Gaston, S.C., manufacturing plant. The FDA said so far 23 animal deaths have been linked to the pet food. The company, based in Meta, Mo., issued a recall of 19 varieties of dog and cat food on Dec. 21 because some of the...

(Rochester, NY) 12/22/05 -- Some pet food contaminated with a toxic fungus is having deadly consequences. Several dogs in the Rochester area have died from the toxin and others could be sick without their owners knowing. Stores in 23 states have been notified to pull Diamond Pet Food products off their shelves. The contaminant, aflatoxin, grows on corn put in the products. The food is sold under the brand names Diamond, Country Value, and Professional. The recalled batches have date codes of March-07 through June-07 and were made at the company's plant in Gaston, South Carolina. Products from other facilities...
I know a there was a thread on this over the weekend, but only because I did a search. It was posted at night. I posted it again, because it might save a life.
Nothin' but Ol' Roy for my Maxxy boy
I agree, HOTD.
A vet was interviewed about it on one of our local stations this morning. He commended Diamond for the measures they have taken, saying the problem comes from molded corn used in the food. Says Diamond is a reputable company and will do the right thing.
I pray for all of the ones who have suffered because their pets have died, and for the ones who are suffering now.
Been feedin' this stuff to my dog for a couple of years...She doesn't have any of the symptoms...I switched brands yesterday...
The recall did include cat food.
Let's feed it to the terrorist's locked up in GITMO.
Who cares?
Who cares about cats...? I have one that I want to off now because my mother has a pure marble bengal in her shelter that I desire. She will not give it to me if I put down the oldster... So lets hit Ebay and see if I can get me some Diamond cat chow.

Deadly Pet Food - Diamond Pet Foods
Yucko. I know Russel's will eat anything as I said. You reminded me however, my friends dog that died used to always puke up toads in the house.
I am laughing so hard I got a stomach ache.
I used some of that stuff when I couldn't find my regular brand. It gave all the dogs diarrhea! Baaaaaad diarrhea!!
Diamond is a good product. That's what bothers me about all the reporting; it makes it sound like the company uses poison in their foods, when this toxin could be in any brand. A similar toxin is often found in peanuts.
I may be mistaken, but I believe azalea itself is poisonous to dogs.
Yesterday was the first day I saw anything on it other than on FR. It was on CNBC scrolling news ticker and the CNN website. Definitely slow in getting the news out!
I was channeling surfing and I saw that one of the networks had a story on this on their nightly news so the information should reach more people
Well, I haven't heard about it except at FR, but I'm way over on the west coast that isn't affected by it.
Since you're on the west coast, you've got bigger problems. Watch out for Governors on motorcycles.

Good news: Check out this blog post from Landry Fan. Lookit the cute Iraqi kitty!
I can laugh about it now but the drive home with the bird in my lap wasn't too funny. It's also funny that the fact that she had eaten the dead bird had nothing to do with why I took her to the vet. She had an itchy ear condition and needed some special cream. I would never have known about the bird if she had thrown it up in the yard.
That kitty is cute. Check out the rest of Phil's pictures too.

very sad.
You are dead on target. Azaleas are poisonous and can cause gasrointestinal upset and cardic dysfunction.
There is no way to be sure any food for pets or humans isn't contaminated. Aflatoxin has also been found in numerous peanut products--sorry, I know we all love that stuff but facts are facts. Recall the Listeria (bacteria that infects the brainstem) outbreak in humans eating contaminated cheese a few years back. Several people died.
bttt
just great.now all the elderly people the evil republicans have forced to resort to eating dog food will die from kidney failure,too..
oh, the huge manatee.
Sorry about your pup.
this is terrorism.
“My 1 1/2 year old Jack Russell named Tootie died last March from an aflatoxin. I don’t know what she ate but the vet sent a specimen of her liver off for the test. She did die of liver failure from eating an aflatoxin. The vet explained that an aflatoxin is mold but we don’t know what was moldy. I have other dogs and they all ate the same food and none of them got sick so I am thinking it was something she ate in the yard. I was heart broken.”
I am very sorry for your loss. I just adopted a Jack Russell and I love him to death. I wish I had known a little more about them first. He’s really a hand full, he thinks he’s a Pit Bull. They’re the Evil Knievals of the dog world, they’ll try anything once.
Congratulations on your Jack Russell. We have 2 now expecting our 3 one (#9) this week. We have had 8 total in the last 16 years. 4 of the 8 were Jack Russel Rescue meaning we took them in when they needed a home. Out of our 8 (so far) only one was a mean biter, one was incredibly stupid and one has severe allergies. The other 5 were wonderful little doggie companions, they all were wonderful actually, except the biter. Some are extremely hyperactive but we have lucked out and haven’t had one of those. You need to meet the parents because chances are, that is the way your pup will turn out.
