Duke was kicked out for reportedly selling the membership rolls.

Words escape me. I think we could name a couple of streets after him.

Got any clean sheets for the ceremony?

The investigation revealed that Klan members were in the military, including two at NORAD who controlled the triggers for nuclear weapons.

Sorry, I can't quite buy that Klan members could get past the background check necesary to get the security clearance for that kind of job. These guys may possibly have been working at NORAD (security, maintenance?) but I don't think that they could have 'controlled the triggers' for the nukes.

Anybody with direct NORAD experience care to weigh in on this?

I have a white friend from South Africa who always tells everyone she is "African-American" .. for some reason this deeply offends some black people she's met.

To bad he didn't simply investigate the NAACP, The Black Panthers,Mara Salvatrucha, the ACLU,Southern Poverty Law Center,or the ADL...

The Klan no doubt was the easiest and most politically correct to go after...dumb a$$ crackers.

I smell a rat there, too. I don't think there's a big red "launch" button at NORAAD. To the best of my knowledge, they just detect enemy missile launches and track inbound threats.

It's a very interesting question. For example, aren't Egyptian, Libyan, or Algerian Descendants in this country also African-Americans?

So its true that, in terms of race, the Klan has less restirctive membership requirements than the congressional black caucus

At the same time, Stallworth also led an undercover investigation into the Progressive Labor Party, a communist group that protested at Klan rallies.

Wouldn't this investigation be un-PC?

I have no NORAD experience but I question whether the people who actually have their finger on the trigger (IE: could launch the missles) are not subjected to a very rigorous background investigation. Furthermore, I doubt if there is a hidden Klan member out there who wouldn't at least be known for having racist viewpoints, which would raise flags all over the place in a background investigation. Besides, I don't think there is anyone at NORAD who can just launch missles because they had the urge. I don't doubt it takes some process to prevent a nutcase from doing it on his own.

Hopefully Ron never had any aspirations of a presidential appointment, or 'Rats would surely drag this out as evidence that he's a racist.

I once knew someone, who worked on Minuteman missiles and did a tour at NORAD as a technical expert.

I was reinterviewed by the FBI, before he went to NORAD and before he went to missile school.

I have lost my zoomie list.

Two aspects that I recall from my limited involvement with nukes in the Navy: 'positive control' and 'two-man rule'.

Our Terrier missiles had specific commands sent to them to arm, detonate, and destruct. If the guidance beam was lost to the missile, it would self-destruct.

Absolutely nothing could be done in the missile magazines without at least two people present. An armed guard posted 24/7 on each magazine enforced that rule.

I thought that Mr. Duke had left the Klan more than twenty years ago.

You can take the racist out of the Klan, but you can't take the Klan out of the racist.
