Hasn't this guy said repeatedly that he did nothing wrong? And now he is going to quit as chairman of a committee?
I dread what is coming down the pike.

This guy was my congressman when I lived in Ohio. The 18th District of Ohio has a history of corruption. Remember Wayne L. Hayes? Anyway if he's resigning his committee chairmanship he must be expecting to be indicted.

I agree. It is time to clean house. We are Republicans. That means we need to hold ourselves to higher standards than the Demorats. Even if it hurts us at the polls in November its a point of honor. No corruption can be tolerated period.

Exactly. We should not defend the indefensible. That's the Democrats stock in trade.

... which would make him the 2nd casualty of the Abramoff scandal The linked article does NOT make this assertion.
So, who is the 1st casualty?

The purge is good. Remember citizen government? If you cant stay out of the cookie jar and have become a shadow of your former self its time to step aside or go to jail.

There was a segment on him on Fox News this morning. It showed him going around talking to Republican groups in his district. What he was saying was pathetic. Stuff like the old "a man is presumed innocent" and all that jazz. Sounded like the honor graduate at the Clinton School of Vocabulary. If you did the crime, admit it, take your punishment and get on with your life.

If he really is crooked, that wouldn't be surprising.
If he's there for the money & power, he's gonna try
to spend whatever remains before being shown the door.

"So, who is the 1st casualty?"
I assume he meant Tom DeLay, who stepped down as Majority Leader.

No, Hays was the one with the secretary that performed, uh..more than secretarial duties. Her name was Liz Ray.

this is pretty say
he (Ney) is pretty respected in the district, even by dems. he has represented the district very well.
last elected at a 2-1 margin.
piling the abramof mud on him is the ONLY way he could lose an election.
i'm open to the possibility he is 'corrupt' (and thus should resign) but he was definitely at the bottom of the list of who i'd expect to be going down for this.
