Rep. Issa announces candidacy for Republican House leadership post (Policy Comm. chairman)

WASHINGTON (AP) - Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, announced his candidacy Friday for a spot in the House Republican leadership being vacated by one of the contenders to replace Tom DeLay as majority leader.

Issa said he will seek the post of Republican Policy Committee chairman, among the lower spots in the eight-member GOP leadership team but one that would give him a seat in meetings with the House speaker, majority leader, whip and others.

"I think California needs to be represented in the national policy debate," Issa said in an interview. "So much of what needs to be heard in Washington originates in California."

The position has been held by Arizona Rep. John Shadegg, who Friday became a candidate in the race for majority leader, opposing Reps. Roy Blunt of Missouri and John Boehner of Ohio.

Republicans will select some new leaders after they return from their winter recess at the end of the month. California now has one other member of leadership: Rep. John Doolittle, R-Rocklin, the Republican Conference secretary.

Doolittle is tied to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, and his leadership post could be at risk if Republicans hold elections for all leadership spots short of speaker. Some rank-and-file Republicans are pushing for such full-scale elections in the wake of the Abramoff lobbying scandal that helped force DeLay, R-Texas, to give up the majority leader job.

He's a RINO and has his nose up Bush's backside.

He let Bush get to him and he pulled the $100k he promised to SaveOurState for the petition drive and scuttled it.

He was also behind the guest worker garbage until he got so much flack from the voters that he is making an appereance of being for border enforcement.

He has also come out publicly saying that Hesbola isn't a terrorist organization (he's lebonese).

I wish he had a serious conservative chalanging him in the primary so I could vote against him.

Sure, I am liberal, because I prefer moderate Republicans to socialist Democrats, unlike some who loudly keep proclaiming how conservative they are who work AGAINST Republicans and basically call ALL Republicans "RINO"-s and it turns out they prefer to have socialist Democrats elected. So who is the liberal, hm?

When are some of you going to get it through your heads that it's Bush or Kerry/Gore/Hillay are the choices. So if you don't like Bush, you obviously are helping the Dem agenda. Nobody can be so naive as not to see that, therefore they must be doing it deliberately.

No offense, but if you're looking for reliable information I wouldn't start with that.

You were reply to a post of mine, where I was replying to a post, which basically said that Issa is a RINO and no good, because he likes Bush. THAT is how Bush got into the discussion.

Issa publicly announced his support of the Hesbolla not only on national TV but here locally in the district.

Outside of that he's genuine RINO garbage.

I wish Morrow would take him on instead of running against Kaloogian in the 50th since Morrow lives in the 48th and is term limited out of the Senate this year.

I guess you just confirmed that you see the world upside down, when someone who prefers a Republicans is a liberal and someone who actively works AGAINST conservative propositions, such as cutting spending, actively works to get Dems elected can still run around and claim they are conservative, because they say so, even if everything else they say and do refutes that claim.
