Does any one of you know any Naval analyst around?
Wow, what a boomer! /sarcasm
I bet this joke is incredibly noisy and we can 'hear it' from miles away.
well I heard this type of midget subs can be deadly to aircraft carriers, right?
Hahaha ... this is a joke? Right?
no! it is dead serious
Iran's psycho president is determined to butt heads with the West. Where's a sniper when you need one?
Its going to be diesel/electric so no when its stopped its going to be as quiet as any western nations nuclear submarine. If not quieter.
Only when it moves will it be noisy.
Well... I'm no expert, but it would appear the thing is powered by three camels on a treadmill. As for firing missiles, I'm just guessing but it looks like the only "missiles" it fires are water balloons.
What is this?
The Italians managed to sink a major British combatant in an Egyptian harbor during WWII in a contraption significantly less sophisticated than this sub. Can't remember the details though.
Diesel electric subs are extremely quiet and the waters of the Persian gulf are very difficult for sub detecting gear. Iranian subs could pose a threat to shipping there.
Pinging one now.
Is that their new stealth battleship in the background?
The Japs & the Nazi's both had small, suicide-subs. Think of this as an underwater version of what hit the USS Cole.
I'm thinking that the reason for the firing of missile & torpedo at the same time is so the counter acting forces push it down and back at the same time instead of flipping it over with the missile launch.
"Iran officially launched the production of the locally built submarine, claiming it was a stealth craft." LOL
they said stealth........lol, looks like a peice of crap that houses other peices of crap who drive it.
actually, it would be deadly against *oil tankers* which is
why it was probably built, an attempt to block the straits of
No, I don't think so!
kill em all
"What is this?"
I don't know - you tell me. As I said, I'm no expert; however, it does bear a remarkable resemblance to the waterborne version of one of those little cars in the circus from which emerge fifteen or twenty clowns all shooting seltzer bottles at one another.
Naw, it's just a washing machine, a large one for very dirty clothes.
Yes, no doubt the ejection of one water balloon would be adequately counteracted by the firing of one seltzer bottle.
"The Japs & the Nazi's both had small, suicide-subs. Think of this as an underwater version of what hit the USS Cole."
Exactly my thoughts as well. I also see Iran making suitcase or smaller nukes with their nuclear technology and not neccessarily the missile guided big ones....better for terrorism that way.
Naw, post #24 says it all!!
Well, I wondered why you inserted your comment when you are no expert!
What do you mean by ALL?
I hope our sonar guys don't wind up hurting their ears listening to the noise levels this thing is going to produce...
This thing looks pretty small, more like a research vessel than a weapons platform. Of course, it is big enough to pack with explosives or a nuclear weapon to send on a suicide mission. Kind of like a manned mine. Hmmmm...
Stop!! I'm running out of keyboards.
Now there's a deadly sub, creates its own fuel!
Why build a full sized sub for that?
It would be a waste of crew and material. (Cuts down on the peak load demand for lots of 72 virgins, too. )
Some on this board think they can defeat Iran by just making cheap insults. I read this article before you even posted it and if you research you will find they have quite a few russian subs as well. I do not take the threat of Iran lightly and I caution others not to either. Iran could shut down oil production in the ME if they had a mind to and that could be part of their strategy.
We tend to laugh at stuff like this... until they start exacting casualties.
This is what its payload should be....and lots of them.
My dear friend and fellow FReeper - please don't be angry with me. I'm only joking, and should tell you that I have been to your home country, which is, indeed, a very great country with a long and magnificent history. I do most sincerely hope you enjoy your stay in America and that you will be moved to become a productive and happy American citizen (if you have not already done so). I know you will find (most) Americans to be a fair and friendly people - many of whom are possessed of a highly developed and very active sense of humor.
i m not angry!
You should check post number 5 before you freak. They have a few Russian Kilos.
For the US, these subs in the Staights of Hormuz, would be like shooting fish in a barrel. If you want to worry, worry about their Silkworm surface to ship missiles.
Those are a real threat.
The leadership of Iran appears to have a death wish.
You're absolutely correct; please see my post to Khashayar.
All you need do to lose to an enemy is to underestimate them. I don't take anyone lightly when they rattle sabers, all joking aside.
