91,700 abortions in (NYC)city [40 out of 100 pregnancies ended in a planned abortion]
NY DAILY NEWS ^ | January 15, 2006 | BY PAUL H.B. SHIN

For every 100 babies born in New York City, women had 74 abortions in 2004, according to newly released figures that reaffirm the city as the abortion capital of the country. And abortions for out-of-town women performed in the city increased from 57 to 70 out of every 1,000 between 1996 and 2004, a subtle yet noticeable trend that experts say may reflect growing hurdles against the procedure in more conservative parts of the country.

The new Vital Statistics report released by the city Department of Health this month shows there were 124,100 live births, 11,700 spontaneous abortions and 91,700 induced abortions in the city in 2004. That means 40 out of 100 pregnancies in the city ended in a planned abortion - almost double the national average of 24 of 100 pregnancies in 2002, estimated by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, a Manhattan-based nonprofit group that researches reproductive health issues.

Abortions anywhere, including in New York and your fancied "blue states" otherwise were as illegal pre-1973 as they were in "red states."

Abortions were legal in some states, including New York prior to 1973- it was a state issue pre-Roe, and will be again when/if Roe is overturned.

There is just one in each state.

There are also just two major airports in those states. Imagine that. Only half as many abortion clinics as airports. Surely there are more pregnant women needing abortions than ordinary people who need to hop on a plane and fly somewhere, right?

Since abortion is every bit as legal as airplane travel (not to mention potentially much more profitable), you're going to have to consider something called "supply and demand"...instead of muttering darkly about deja vu.

I also remember the pre-Roe days, and this is nothing like them.

I meant the abortion trend, not the immigration trend. New York was THE place to go, pre-Roe.

Well, "feminist" around here is used as a curse word. I am a feminist in that I believe women should be able to vote, hold professional jobs, have their own credit, and have the same rights and responsibilities as men. Around here, it seems to mean "man-hater", "lesbian", and other things I am not.

I am not a Democrat; I am primarily a fiscal/business conservative, and not a social conservative. I am not a Republican, either, since I live in Virginia and we do not have registration by party here. I think it would be beneficial if more states were like that!

"temple of Huitzilopochtli"

For some reason, your graphic is totally black on my screen. Is everybody else seeing it correctly?

"Abortions anywhere, including in New York and your fancied "blue states" otherwise were as illegal pre-1973 as they were in "red states.""

That's actually not true. The first legalized abortion law was signed in California by Ronald Reagan in 1967. New York followed in 1970, and two others I would have to look up had also legalized it before 1973. The trend in states was toward legalization when the Supreme Court short-circuited the process. Abortion proponents would have been better off waiting for state legislatures to do their job.

That's odd. I'm a Republican, and I live in Virginia. I think our two senators are Republican as well. And the Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.

I remember pre-1973 very well. Do you?

Sure do. And I was pro-abortion in those days.

I see no resemblance whatsoever to that time now. Unfortunately.

I agree times have changed. Travel is cheaper and long-distance travel is more common.

And, **I** meant the immigration trend, and the illegal immigration trend. And to New York and why.

New York has always been a magnet for immigrants of the legal kind for obvious, official and legal reasons, but the illegal immigration trend today is to go to NYC and NY state for easy secondary-economy employment, housing, free social goods and services with or without legal status.

And, thus, a good guess as to who those increased "2% visitors" to New York are is almost certainly a larger number of illegal immigrants. You concluded it was a "red state" versus the default-NewYork-"blue state" issue while I'm asking, why conclude thusly?

Given NY's reputation and status as immigrant and illegal immigrant magnet and secondary economy, it's no surprise that the ever increasing demands are for everything there, given the ever increasing immigration problem to NY, especially.

Then if you live in Virginia and are a voter, you also know you did not declare a party yourself when you registered.

I think we all remember that, since it's very much in use. Do you mean you remember its introduction? That's before my time.

Yup. But just because I do not have to register as a Republican does not make me any less a Republican.

I do not know the answer to that. As to where Mississippi women get them now, I suppose that if not in Jackson, then in neighboring states. The CDC Abortion Surveillance report gives statistics by state; you might see if neighboring states have seemingly elevated rates compared to their own population.

Prayer for the Helpless Unborn

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us,  protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life.

Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood.

Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life.

Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.
