Controversial Words At Sharpton's MLK Event Clinton's Use Of Word 'Plantation' Raises Eyebrows

(CBS) NEW YORK The Martin Luther King Day celebration at Reverend Al Sharpton's National Action Network is a rite of passage in an election year. And with so many big races this year, candidates and controversy were the order of the day.
“Candidate for governor Tom "Swazee''s" here,” said Rev. Sharpton, completely mangling the Nassau County Executive’s name. So Nassau county executive Tom Suozzi had his name mangled. Then he was called on the carpet.
Charged Bertha Lewis of the ACORN housing group: “Nassau County is the third most segregated county in this country and you sir are the county executive.”
But Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who like Suozzi, wants to be governor, didn't get off any easier. He was asked to support the reinstatement of Tawana Brawley lawyer Alton Maddox's law license.
And there was this question:
“There are at least 12 political prisoners in New York State who were members of the black liberation army and the black party for 30 years. . .Are you open to reviewing their cases?"
There were tough questions to politicians who feel they must attend the event as much to pay homage to Sharpton as to celebrate Dr. King's legacy.
Sen. Hillary Clinton, who had launched into an impassioned attack on the Bush administration.
“We have a culture of corruption, we have cronyism we have incompetence I predict to you that this administration will go down on history as one of the worst that has ever governed out country.”
Clinton actually got an easy question. “I need you to tell us what distinguishes Democrats from Republicans right now,” she was asked.
Clinton's answer was provocative.

Just a little bit of classic, Clintonian "signal to noise" here. The phrase "Liberal Plantation" must be starting to get some traction with a key Dim voting bloc or two, so she's going to cancel it out.

Some House Republicans took immediate offense at Senator Clinton's choice of words.
Said Republican Congressman Peter King, of Long Island, "It's always wrong to play the race card for political gain by using a loaded word like plantation. But it is particularly wrong to do so on Martin Luther King Day."
Don't ya just feel the love from the left side of the isle on this day of rememberance of Dr. King and the non-violence movement.

When will Republicans and conservatives learn they dont have to pay homage to these deadbeats, even one day a year? They dont vote for either, they dont do anything except complain.
Get off the "self hate" complex that drives you to these events and get on with life.
Here in Atlanta we are treated to a 3 hour service at MLK Jr's former church that is televised by one channel. It eventually becomes a bashing session of the republican devil of the month whoever that person seems to be (lately it's Bush and the republicans in Georgia). The Georgia republican governor was there. If I had to sit through 3 hours of this I would leave thinking America was the worst country in the world.
There's got to be a Black Republican event somewwhere these repubs could go instead. If not, then they need to start one.
Peter King has become one of the Few Republicans in Washington that doesn't make me cringe when he speaks. Simply because he doesn't cower to the press, or fear the Liberal attacks. He fights back. A rarity.

I beg to differ hillereeee...I think you have YOUR HUSBAND muxed up with this President. It is ole willie who will go down in history as one of the worst Presidents in the HISTORY of our country. I have been saying that all along and it is true. clintin can't hold a candle to this great Presidetn Bush and hilllereee can't hold a candle to this great First Lady Laura Bush. Hillereeee is old, stale, stuffy, musty and has to attck. That's all she can do. I pity her too.

Heard her speech on the news earlier. In print her remarks don't even touch on her tone and meter. It reminded me of my ex wife listing the whole universe of things "wrong" with me. I hated it then and despise it now.

You are right, I'm not much on people who constantly demand more and more from the government.....ie, me and the money I earn.
Exactly. They got what they deserved for kneeling down to kiss sharption's ass and do what comes after that. As for Hillary getting an easy question, she is their whore. They have had her and can have her anytime they want. She is old hat. sharption wants to feel Republican lips on his ass. And he got it.
Again, the Republicans got what they deserved for being there.
