Whitewater Payback?
Wall Street Journal ^ | January 17, 2006

Posted on 01/17/2006 7:43:57 AM PST by presidio9

Now that Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito seems headed for confirmation, it's a good moment to ask: What about the rest of them?

We refer to President Bush's six stalled nominees for the appeals courts. Several nominations -- including, most notably, that of White House staff secretary Brett Kavanaugh -- have been languishing for years. Mr. Kavanaugh was first nominated to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals on July 23, 2003. He had a hearing on April 27, 2004, but no vote. The President renominated him on February 14, 2005, shortly into his second term, but again no vote; by the end of the year the Senate still hadn't acted.

In such cases, the Senate routinely permits nominations to be carried over into the following year. No such luck for Mr. Kavanaugh, whose nomination was blocked by an unknown Senator or Senators. That means the President must now nominate Mr. Kavanaugh for a third time, as we're told he will.

Who is this secret Senator? Speculation centers on New York Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, who reportedly is uninterested in furthering the career of the man who once worked for Whitewater Independent Counsel Kenneth Starr. Mrs. Clinton was the sole Senator to vote against Michael Chertoff and Viet Dinh in 2001 when they were confirmed for top Justice Department positions in the Bush Administration. Both men had participated in the investigation of her husband. The Senator's office says she "has taken no action to impede [Mr. Kavanaugh's] nomination."

The advise-and-consent clause of the Constitution gives the Senate the duty of vetting all federal judicial nominees. Mr. Kavanaugh and his fellow appeals-court candidates deserve up-or-down votes on the Senate floor --

Rest assured, "Whitewater Payback" will happen when the Rats take the House in November. They will initiate Impeachment proceedings and force Bush to pick a liberal replacement for Ruth Ginsberg, who has colon cancer. This is why they are backing off Sam Alito even now.

when the Rats take the House in November.

The Rats will not gain a majority in either the House or the Senate in '06. The only way they'll take either is with a coattail effect in '08...for example, if McCain is the GOP nominee and many conservatives sit out the election.

The evil of the Clintons always shows itself. This marxist witch, and her criminal reprobate husband, represent the epitome of "the dark side" that has impregnated the Washington scene...their politics of revenge is obvious, and always has been.

Raped the young girls, his men, or the girls' dead fathers? With Islam, anything is possible.

The thing that ticks me off is Dubya's relative silence on the matter.

Why won't he use the bully-pulpit to inform the people the Democrats have been stall judicial nominees forever??

Or why won't the GOP Senate "Leader," Bill Frist, bring it up in a news conference?

Who is this secret Senator? Speculation centers on New York Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton...

More kid-glove treatment for the Clintons by the Bush White House -- for BOTH of them. I still get nauseous over the GH Bush/Bubba Magical Mystery Tour.

One day I hope we find out what kind of "arrangement" has been made.

Mrs. Clinton To Run For White House

Hillary Biographer, the late Barbara Olson, says Mrs. Clinton’s roots are Marxist

Barbara Olson, author of Hell to Pay. The Unfolding Story of Hillary Rodham Clinton (Regnery Publishing, Inc. 1999), is a prominent Washington attorney who served as a congressional investigator and as a general counsel in the United States Senate. She was interviewed by Cliff Kincaid, president of America’s Survival, on December 8, 2000. What follows is an edited transcript of that interview.

Q: Do you believe that Hillary Rodham Clinton is a Marxist?

A: I believe she has a political ideology that has its roots in Marxism. In her formative years, Marxism was a very important part of her ideology...But when you look at her ideas on health and education, you see more government and less individual control. You see very little regard for families...

Q: Do you see Hillary as in favor of Socialist-style thinking at the global level?

A: We saw that with her activities as First Lady. She traveled more than any other First Lady. She had a global view. She spoke at the Beijing conference on women. She was very active in organizations and conferences that seem to be concerned about human rights but which are also directed toward a centralized governmental view. That is, one world. I looked at her travels and saw what she was doing. I always assumed Hillary was going to run for president. And I assumed that these international travels and her work with the Beijing women’s conference and the U.N. were going to be her way into the White House; that she was going to have a foreign policy platform that not many women have...

Q: So you do believe that she will run for president?

A: I do. She believes her ideology to the core. She’s worked for it behind Bill Clinton for years. I have thought that Hillary was going to run for the White House since 1993 when I started investigating the Clintons. She doesn’t compromise. She doesn’t come to the center. She believes in a true leftist, Socialist kind of government.

Q: She portrays her causes such as children’s rights and women’s rights in such an attractive manner. She has put conservatives on the defensive once again.

A: She has. That’s the central focus of her public relations campaign...But her ideas about health care and education have very little to do with women and children. They are the lever she uses to bring the government into the family.

Q: She’s been pushing treaties such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Isn’t she promoting global government?

A: Yes.We all know about her book, It Takes a Village. She says the future is not family but the larger village of teachers, pediatricians and social workers. She talks about raising children as less of a parental task than a social one...You have the destruction of the family unit. That’s very basic when you study Socialism and Marxism. (30)

If there were rumors it was DeLay doing something like thiblocking a nominee it would be headline news, and discussion fodder on all of the time wasting shows.

The Rats need 15 seats to take control of Congress. Considering the fact that the out-of-power party typically makes the largest inroads during the off-year of a second term president, this is not out of the realm of possibility.

Ruth Ginsberg, who has colon cancer

I thought she'd been cancer free since her treatment, way back in 1999. Is she out of remission? She's got other health problems that could cause her to retire. Don't count on her retiring during this administration. The only way she'll leave is through death or if she becomes incapacitated and can NO longer perform her duties.

It'd be Stevens who'd most likely, at 85 yrs old, be the next justice to be replaced. He'll too have to either die or become incapacitated. He'd never on his own step down; giving W another appointment nominee.

Let's hope and pray W gets this opportunity. W has done such an excellent job with Roberts and Alito.

You betcha...

But all the GOP can do drum it into the media, OR as I suggested, the President has to create the news with the bully-pulpit (which is covered with cobwebs as is his veto-pen.)

What have the Democrats done to win votes? The haven't one idea on foreign or domestic policy.

All they have done is appease our enemy, attempt to demoralize our military, provoke hatred for our military on college campuses, attempt to criminalize politics, and cough up one disgusting poster child for Liberalism after another.

The last straw was the disgusting display we witnessed at the Alito hearings, and the nail in the coffin was when Mrs. Alito broke down in tears.

It's over for the rats, the will lose seats if anything.

Hasn't happened since the "Republican takeover" of 1994, and the country has become even more conservative since then.

The GOP may not be a dream-come-true, but the Donkeys are even more pathetic.

With so many house districts gerrymandered in favor of one party or the other, less than 10% of house races will even be competitive. Things would have to break perfectly for the Dems for all these few races to go their way. If they actually had a program to govern on, I'd be more worried about that happening. In the absence of such a program, the most they can hope for is a pickup of a few seats, much less than 15.
