Ted Kennedy to quit sexist club after being outed by conservatives. HA!

U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy — who ripped Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito for ties to a group that discriminates against women — says he’s going to quit a club notorious for discriminating against women “as fast as I can.”

Kennedy was outed by conservatives late last week as a current member of The Owl Club, a social club for Harvard alumni that bans women from membership.

In an interview with WHDH Channel 7’s Andy Hiller that aired last night, Kennedy said, “I joined when I . . . 52 years ago, I was a member of the Owl Club, which was basically a fraternal organization.”

Asked by Hiller whether he is still a member, Kennedy said, “I’m not a member; I continue to pay about $100.”

He then said of being a member in a club that discriminates against women, “I shouldn’t be and I’m going to get out of it as fast as I can.”

The Harvard Crimson reports that, in 1984, the university severed ties with clubs like the Owl, citing a federal law championed by Kennedy.

Meanwhile, Kennedy admitted to Hiller that he himself probably couldn’t pass Judiciary Committee muster.

“Probably not . . . probably not,” Kennedy said.

The committee will vote on Alito’s nomination on Jan. 24, and the full Senate will begin debate the next day. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said he looks forward to a “fair up-or-down vote.”

Notice the lies Kennedy tells during the interview

No, but the point is that he's a hypocrit. The Dems are always trying to kill freedom of association.
He can join the he-man-woman-haters club for all I care.

I am troubled, deeply troubled by Teddy’s association with such a sexist group... Quiz for the day: When the Concerned Alumni of Princeton’s advocate equal treatment of men and women in regard to college admissions it is sexism. When the Owl Club’s refused to admit women to membership under any circumstances it is ?????.

Yeah, not too many murderers on the Supreme Court (that we know of)

No difference at all. Kennedy wanted to pillory Alito for joining an organization that was engaged in an effort to keep Princeton all male.

The OWL club continues to allow membership even to those booted from the school for cheating?

Now I know why he let Mary Jo Kopechne remain in the car, he was headed to the OWL club and it would have been impossibly bad form to show up with a broad in tow.

Ted Kennedy...a more detestable character there may not be.

Most of us probably don't have a problem with Kennedy's or Alito's involvement in such clubs. But when the likes of Kennedy tries to use it against Alito when he himself is involved in the same type of club (and continues to be a member) then we will take issue with it. And we did!

"I’m going to get out of it as fast as I can.” Just like he did with Mary Jo.

Bwahahahaha! I don't know which is funnier. The fact he got caught, or the whole concept of Kennedy being anywhere there aren't women.

LOL.

You are right of course.

But he is only being held to the standard that he was holding Alito to. That is the entire point.

He was kicked out for cheating, but was readmitted two years later and went on to graduate from "Haavad."

My "representative" in the House is Carolyn Maloney. She had long been a member of the same Junior League chapter I am. But she denied it (the only way she could get away with denying it is by saying she's not an "active" member) because (I guess) it made her seem "elitist" (the woman's one of the richest members of the House!) and now she's not even in the directory anymore.

"She had long been a member of the same Junior League chapter I am. But she denied it..."

See? I just don't get why. There is nothing wrong, in my opinion, with being a member of a club that restricts memberships.
