Nagin Recruiting Hershey to Rebuild New Orleans
ScrappleFace ^ | 2006-01-17 | Scott Ott

Posted on 01/17/2006 12:49:17 PM PST by george76

In a further clarification of yesterday’s remarks that a rebuilt New Orleans would be a “chocolate” city, Mayor Ray Nagin today said he’s planning to recruit Hershey Foods to establish a candy manufacturing plant in the hurricane-ravaged region.

The Democrat mayor’s latest clarification builds on yesterday’s explanation that his remarks are not racist because chocolate is made with dark chocolate and white milk forming “a delicious drink.”

“We’re in the very, very early stages of discussions with Hershey,” Mr. Nagin said, “It’s still in the pre-meeting, pre-phone call stage. But that’s what this chocolate city concept is all about.

It’s literally chocolate, rather than chocolate as a metaphor for something else. It’s edible chocolate. It really is.”

The mayor said he’s long been intrigued by the possibility of transitioning New Orleans’ economy from one “reliant upon fickle fads in human debauchery” to something more stable, like chocolate.

“Ever since I saw the movie Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I’ve thought, ‘That’s New Orleans’,” Mayor Nagin said. “and I thought, ‘I’m Willy Wonka’. ”

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, who yesterday told a group of African-Americans that Republicans have run the House of Representatives like “a plantation”, said she would help Mayor Nagin secure federal funding to turn the Louisiana Gulf coast into “a chocolate version of Silicon Valley.”

Hey George 76--
Instead of little chocolate kisses decorating the street lamps, they can have little chocolate saxaphones, trombones, and trumpets.

There are many things I could say here but won't.

I guess the Mayor has been reading Forbes. There is an article in the current edition describing a Hershey charity that owns lots of the stock and is sitting on truckloads of cash.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you beg a million here and a million there, pretty soon it adds up to big money.

You have reminded me of a Halloween party many years ago where a couple I know came dressed as candy bars. She was a Mounds Bar, he was an Almond Joy.

I digress for a moment with a true story related to chocolate...

A friend and I took his daughters to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania for their 13th birthdays back in the early 90's. It was cold and rainy so we ducked into a restaurant for some hot chocolate.

We're at HERSHEY park, mind... I looked at the cocoa packet, and it was NESTLE chocolate. Unbelievable.

"It's time for all of us good folk to stand up and say, `We're tired of the violence. We're tired of black folks killing each other,'" Nagin said.
---

It's not color. It's life's purpose and all coming together for the comon good.

Nagin seems hung up on skin color as a determinate factor for what's acceptable for his NO plantation vision. Are white people's genetic value and existance only acceptable as it serves his racist idea for the 'chocolate' mix?
What's next, maybe he'll desinate drinking fountains for only white's.
