Paper Shutters Blog After Ombudsman Post Jan 19 7:28 PM US/Eastern
WASHINGTON
The Washington Post shut down one of its blogs Thursday after the newspaper's ombudsman raised the ire of readers by writing that lobbyist Jack Abramoff gave money to the Democrats as well as to Republicans.
At the center of a congressional bribery investigation, Abramoff gave money to Republicans while he had his clients donate to both parties, though mostly to Republicans.
In her Sunday column, ombudsman Deborah Howell wrote that Abramoff "had made substantial campaign contributions to both major parties," prompting a wave of nasty reader postings on post.blog.
There were so many personal attacks that the newspaper's staff could not "keep the board clean, there was some pretty filthy stuff," and so the Post shut down comments on the blog, or Web log, said Jim Brady, executive editor of washingtonpost.com.
"We're not giving up on the concept of having a healthy public dialogue with our readers, but this experience shows that we need to think more carefully about how we do it," Brady wrote on the newspaper's Web site. "There are things that we said we would not allow, including personal attacks, the use of profanity and hate speech."

I've always said that the best thing you can do with the Washington Post (or the New York Times) is line the bottom of the birdcage with it.

It's funny to watch libbies. They're like little insects. You poke their insect hill with a stick and they run around really fast and insane-like, and eventually settle down, and then you poke them again.

Shame. It is so frequent that most citizens and the LSM,at best, seem to be so apathetic when a round of Napalm of Truth hits the Left's Hill. If on the Pub's, and a serious screw-up, the little insects flock insanely fast to 'feed up' on the decay to gorge, laugh and belch. If there is such a a thing as conservation of law of energy in nature; (which there is) seems to have me befuzzled as to why society as a whole in general doesn't seem to react in like manner. Guess politics, the Left, society, both domestic and globally, operate on different time scales and physical dimensions.
I say if a person is a true conservative, then to 'keep-a-pokin' is a duty...otherwise the truth never gets out. Like I read somewhere else on FR"
"Opinion is somewhere between the truth and ignorance."

The bitter pill of truth is an antidote for Democrats' "lie and deny". However, there is no cure for their tantrums and hate speech. They have no sense of what they are!

I think it has something to do with underdeveloped brain stems. Like babies born addicted to crack, many mothers "used" the drug of laziness and dependence which affected the in-utero development similarly. Tragic, really.

No, you don't understand. When you are screaming names and cussing out a repuuuuublican, it isn't hate speech. It's 'justifiable' speech. Because as I've been told, "If I've got to deal with someone as stupid as you, then you deserve it". This was of course after I'd wiped her and her ideas in the dust with LOGIC and TRUTH.

It sounds as though they were bombarded by posts from the denizens of DU. Yes. I don't think the paper shut it down because it disagreed with what she wrote, but because it was disgusted by the reaction of the left wingers.
To: seanmerc
Kind of reminds me of the Enron scandal. Every time the left would connect a Republican to Ken Lay, they also ended up finding "guilty" Democrats in the process. The act of using Lay to bring down a Republican also could take out two or more Dems with the same charge. That's why the story dropped, the Dems decided to quit while they were behind.
To: seanmerc
There were so many personal attacks that the newspaper's staff could not "keep the board clean, there was some pretty filthy stuff," and so the Post shut down comments on the blog, or Web log, said Jim Brady, executive editor of washingtonpost.com. Lemme guess. The DU-ers took the day off from their own board only to go trash the Washington Post board.

Liberals go crazy because they don't get the truth from the media. They are dumb-downed with kool-aid. When confronted with the truth they go ape-shit, might be a good reality show. Hannity kinda shows how stupid libs are by doing his man in the street bits.

Be fore-warned.
My parrot was quite the conversationalist at one time. We had discourses on Economics, Social Duty, and even Spiritual discourse.
Then, in an attempt to save money, I used the free "Express" version of the POSt(caps intended) to line his cage.
Now, all he says is, "It's Bush's fault!"
