In a speech last week, Al Gore took another swing at the National Security Agency's electronic surveillance program, which monitors international communications when one party is affiliated with terrorists. Specifically, Mr. Gore argued that George Bush "has been breaking the law repeatedly and persistently," and that such actions might constitute an impeachable offense. The question he raises is whether the president illegally bypassed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). But the real issue is national security: FISA is as adept at detecting--and, thus, preventing--a terrorist attack as a horse-and-buggy is at getting us from New York to Paris.
I have extensive experience with the consequences of government bungling due to overstrict interpretations of FISA. As chief counsel for the Senate Intelligence Committee from 1981 to 1984, I participated in oversight of FISA in the first years after its passage. When I subsequently became deputy assistant attorney general in the Reagan administration, one of my responsibilities was the terrorism portfolio, which included working with FISA.
In 1985, I experienced the pain of terminating a FISA wiretap when to do so defied common sense and thwarted the possibility of gaining information about American hostages. During the TWA 847 hijacking, American serviceman Robert Stethem was murdered and the remaining American male passengers taken hostage. We had a previously placed tap in the U.S. and thought there was a possibility we could learn the hostages' location. But Justice Department career lawyers told me that the FISA statute defined its "primary purpose" as foreign intelligence gathering. Because crimes were taking place, the FBI had to shut down the wire.
FISA's "primary purpose" became the basis for the "wall" in 1995, when the Clinton-Gore Justice Department prohibited those on the intelligence side from even communicating with those doing law enforcement.

What was it that VP Cheney said recently? Something like he was 'glad that Al Gore lost in 2000.' Thats all we need to be thankful for these days. The man is insane.
Short answer is, "yes".
Bump!
Victoria Toensing is doing great work puncturing the moonbats' balloons.
"I am your lord and master! You WILL bow down before me!"
It's unsettling to think Gore was only 538 votes away from being POTUS. Not only is he insane, but he's turning into a pathological liar. Like the Clintons, truth and honesty are a very low priority for Algore.
No question about it, Gore has serious mental instability. You can see it in that picture and hear it in his speeches. He has gone around the bend mentally. May the Lord continue to keep that psycho out of the White House.
Yes, as El Rushbo says they don't want any problem solved, certainly not by President Bush, they want the "issue" for political purposes and to justify their existence.
The other thing that really irks me about Gore is the way he talks down to his audience like he's this superior, more intelligent person talking to children. I doubt that he's even in the same league with me in SAT scores and yet he talks down to people like me. His attempts to disenfranchise military voters in Florida in November, 2000 were an absolute disgrace. How can he show his crazy face in public after a disgraceful episode like that?
Yep
Don't you know, the Constitution is a suicide pact?
So, Gore is saying that HE is responsible for removing all hope for the hostages of the TWA 847 hijacking, and leaving them to die?
He should be hung!!!
The Father of The Internet vs. The Hildabeast vs. The Great Purple Heart.
It's going to be a fun primary season in 2008.
Fat Al is the quintessential Democrat. The more hysterically he raves, the more obvious it becomes that he's both pathetic and bonkers.
Do Al Gore and other Democrats really want to keep the government from finding al Qaeda agents? Clearly, the answer is yes. They radical leftists have made it impossible to believe otherwise.
Wow this is going to be fun. Mrs. Bill Clinton with her shrill screach, algore bloviating about how f-ing smart he is compared to us mortals and throw in Joe (the plagerizer)Biden talking us to sleep, The reverand Al and maybe a few other loonie birds all on the same stage telling us how they would do a better job then Mr. Bush.
I have some straight razors I'd donate to watch them cut each others throats.
But watching these fols try to become our next president is better then any other show in town.
Oh yeah and throw in Israel bombinb the crap out of Irans nuke project and time to get the popcorn and set back in the easy chaie for the fun.
Big Al isn't on the dem A list anymore. Like Kerry, he just thinks he is.
"Do Al Gore and other Democrats really want to keep the government from finding al Qaeda agents in the U.S.?"
That's silly. Of course they want to find them. They just don't want to kill them.
Ya see their plan is that when they do catch them they'll....
After a couple years of this 24/7/365 gubmint oversight al Qaeda will be so demoralized and just plain lazy, they won't have the will nor energy to kill anyone. However, they WILL get accustomed to sitting in various gubmint offices for hours on end - only to be told at 4:45 pm to 'come back tomorrow'.
It's really quite dastardly when you think about it.
If the Clinton administration wasn't too busy pimping for Exxon and their interests in the Caspian Sea area, maybe they would have been more interested in the info that Sudan was serving up on a silver platter. In 1995, Roger Tamraz sold Gore on his idea for a pipeline. If the White House and the NSC had spent less time worrying whether or not Exxon got its 5%, maybe 9/11 never would have happened.

Victoria for Attorney General!
How can he show his crazy face in public after a disgraceful episode like that?...............
I hope he continues to do so--- over, and over, and over again!
The only difference between the Rats and Al-Queda is the AQ doesn't hate America nearly as much!!
Pray for W and Our Freedom Fighters
uh, they want us to lose the war over there... so I can only surmise that they would like us to not find the enemy as well.
He got my vote for POS.
"The Father of The Internet vs. The Hildabeast vs. The Great Purple Heart."
Who do you think the lefty loons really want as their candidate? I've been to kos, du, and several other moonbat havens and really can't tell who they like or want? I know who they hate, but GWB isn't running and I'm not sure how they translate the hate they have for GWB into action for any candidate.
I really think that they have been so consumed by GWB hatred that there may not be enough passion left for a coherent campaign, regardless of the eventual candidate. It's easy to tell who they are against, but very tough to tell who {and what} they are for.
Who do you think the lefty loons really want as their candidate? My guess is the alGore. The Hildabeast is too "pro-war" for them and Kerry is such a pathetic loser that even the left can't stomach the sight of him anymore. I know what you're thinking, isn't the alGore a pathetic loser too? And the answer is: of course. However, I still get the feeling that the adoration expressed on DU for the pathetic loser from TN is real, as is their disinterest in the pathetic loser from MA. Why that should be, I don't have a clue.
Interesting stuff. I didn't know that Gore did so poorly in law school. It certainly takes good intelligence and some hard work to get a Harvard MBA. I went to UCLA grad business school, and while it wasn't as tough as undegrad biochemistry at UCSD, it was rigorous academically and it was no piece of cake.
Me too. Our nation was 538 votes away from disaster. I try not to think about it.
