Letter: Here's the plan
Naples Daily News ^ | 1/21/2006 | Barry Willoughby

Editor, Daily News:

Why are we pussy-footing around? Liberals (along with some pseudo-conservative types) are caught in the grips of political correctness — another form of deceit and dishonesty.

Political correctness is an advanced form of lying, actually working against the end it means to achieve. That is why fighting a politically correct war against terrorism has been so arduous.

Here is what we ought to do (my fellow "Republican" Jane Varner might even approve of this plan). The United States, acting on behalf the president, Congress and its citizens, should advance the following declaration:

In an orderly fashion, the U.S. shall immediately withdraw all its combat forces throughout the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa. Only diplomatic contingents shall remain, if invited. Money saved will be spent towards shoring up our borders and developing alternative energy sources, ridding ourselves of oil dependence. If there is another Muslim terrorist attack thrust upon American interests, retaliation shall be swift and harsh. The Muslim world will have 30 days to clear everything out of Mecca, the most holy city of pilgrimage. At noon on the 31st day, a nuclear device will destroy everything within a 50-mile radius of Mecca. Radiation fallout will prevent habitation and mandatory Muslim pilgrimages for at least 100 years. Future terrorist attacks will result in the same "punishment" with a different target.

Problem solved. The left may find this plan repugnant, but I'm open to debate for further refinement.

Sounds like a plan, but 30 days seems too long.

No, people like this think isolation is a practical alternative to preemption. What they fail to realize is that we tried isolation several times before and each time it results in the appearance of weakness and an attack on our territory.

Had the Germans and Japanese used our isolation to defeat Europe and Russia first, building up their experience and might, we probably would have lost WWII.

That is what liberals want us to do.

"The Muslim world will have 30 days to clear everything out of Mecca, the most holy city of pilgrimage."

My guess is that "the Muslim world" will use that 30 days to transport all the women and children to Mecca with the noble and holy purpose of saving it.

Checkmate.

What is a psuedo conservative?

William F. Buckley, Jr.

But then, he's called a crypto-Nazi as well.

At any rate he and Jimmie Kahtah belong to the same club: The Panama Canal Giveaway Club.

robertpaulsen's "noble" reply:

Checkmate.

Warn them that if there is another major Muslim terrorist attack thrust upon American interests, retaliation shall be swift and harsh, and may well include a 3 day notice to clear everyone out of Mecca, the most holy city of pilgrimage. At noon on the 3rd day, a small nuclear device will destroy everything within a 3 mile radius of Mecca.

Game, set, match..

Paulsen, - petulantly:

Mr. Buckley is a full-blown Libertarian.

My, isn't it a shame how few of the so-called 'power elite' are rational human beings...

However true that may be, there is no denying that National Review (Reagan's favorite publication) paved the way for Reagan's eventual election. Others, like The American Spectator, Reason, Chronicles of Culture helped move it along, but NR was the bulldozer. Its predecessors barely registered a blip. Credit where credit is due, and all that.

Mr. Buckley is a full-blown Libertarian.

What was he when he sided with Jimmie Kahtah on surrendering the strategically located Panama Canal?

I used to read Buckley in NR and his books, but then I graduated from high school and went on to college where I realized that Buckley was a wheezing pseudo-intellectual as well as professing to be a conservative.

His stammering professorial demeanor became as boring as listening to a speech by Hillary or Billary.
