"1) Success in the WOT...Churchill was dumped after he won WW2. The Republicans could be dumped after an Iranian Revolution brings lots of peace."

Let's worry about that problem when we come to it.
I'd rather have peace and the biggest annoyance being liberals than our state of war.

I heard the same bunk after the fall of Communism.
Was actually good for the GOP, we gained the House.

Most of your other comments are IMHO off the mark.

That's also assuming that fat cholesterol laden pig Nadler does not keel over from a massive heart attack by then.

Believe me, I wasn't saying that this administration should purposely fail to win the WOT in order to avoid Churchill's fate and the fate of the President's father. In fact...I noted that, if the President does NOT stop the Iranian nuke program, the Hildebeast will have the Republican Party for lunch.

I have noticed so many FReepers don't seem to have an idea on how the rest of the public will quickly lose any idea that the Republicans care about national security...if this administration allows Iran to get nukes.

A lot in this war is secret, and I voted for Bush in 2004 because too many uneducated Democrats don't seem to understand this. They get a theory in their head and they think it is the truth. So they can say "Osama is still around" and use that, in their minds, to say the Republicans don't really care about security....where an honest, thinking person would say "Osama could be dead and his "voice" is now being used by us as a false flag operation"...or "just because Rummy may have made a mistake at Tora Bora doesn't mean that the Dems could find a more competent SecDef".

Smart people also see that Iraq, behind the headlines, is getting better and better as a function of time and newer Iraqi police and soldiers coming online.

But, in the GWOT, too many perceived mistakes on the part of Rumsfeld and too much timidity and apparent rudderlessness on the part of the President, will leave them open to discussion on why the Axis of Evil is flourishing...which will cut at the Republican's huge 9-11 base of support.

On the other things I mentioned...these are precisely some of the issues that divide the 9-11 Republicans and the older FReepers. Someone wrote to me "but these are issues that mean a lot to us"...but I hope he was only saying that the abortion issue means a lot.

On a local level in 2006, a politician cannot speak out against anti-smoking laws or make remarks that insult unmarried couples living together (Jesus made friends with several unmarried couples living together). He wouldn't just lose the middle with this, because you can be on the far-right and still be against smoking (example: marijuana is a drug like tobacco and it is "conservative" to be against it). Just ask any Mormon if they're liberal because they are against smoking. Ask the 99% Republican Utah legislature why they just banned smoking in Utah.

Being conservative doesn't mean being "anti-science".

You're not conservative if you're still waiting for proof that second hand smoke is harmful. You're irrelevant. The public doesn't like the smell of cigarettes even.

Fair or not, a "creationist" would never survive as a politician in the north and west, and he or she would create significant opposition in the south on the issue. The independents would have him or her for lunch. It might be an interesting topic, but it is a radioactive topic politically.

It would be complete suicide for a politician to imply, for instance to a meeting of building contractors, that Jimmy Carter "meddled" with their industry by banning asbestos without "proof" that it was harmful. A journalist could take such a remark and run with it for a touchdown.

Politics is a minefield and the mines are shifting around.

Sadly, too many Democrats have gone into traitor territory on the WOT.

"These are clearly crimes and the statute of limitations extends beyond this president's term,'' which will end in January 2009, said Rep. Jerry Nadler D-N.Y., at an ad hoc hearing called by House Judiciary Committee's Democrats to assail Bush's contention that his order for warrantless domestic wiretaps on American citizens is legal.

Someone should inform Laney Davis (Democrat/Clinton apologist) because he said today on Fox News that President Bush didn't do anything illegal and Democrats were making fools of themselves for even thinking of trying to Impeach Pres. Bush. That's how stupid the moonbats are when Laney doesn't even agree with them. lol!

Nice paraphrase of Ted Kennedy who replied to Mary Jo's fear of being pregnant by saying, "We will cross that bridge when we come to it.".

The former head of NSA was on CSPAN addressing these charges.

He said the NSA post 911 signal intelligence gathering on domestic individuals (who often are not citizens) was reviewed and approved by three separate senior NSA attorneys and was given specific clearance by the Justice Department and its attorneys prior to its implementation.

All stated that the administration was in full compliance with the law and the constitution.

The Conyers/Nadler gang has nothing but hot air and the people at NSA couldn't be safer in their mama's womb.

P.S. He also made it clear that NSA was in the signal intelligence business and not in the business of digging through people's trash.

I call Conyer's antics "kangeroo hearings".

Golly! Did Rush happen to pick up that soundbite? That's priceless. On several levels.

This is why I say: BRING IT ON! Nothing could be better for Bush or the country to smackdown these crap allegations big-time.

"Should the political climate change..."

Yea. Right. Good luck with that.

"In case by some miracle we get elected, we'll come after you 'cause we can. But for now the 'political climate' prevents it"

Just damn. You can't make this stuff up.
