WASHINGTON, Jan. 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement recognizing the 33rd Anniversary of the landmark Roe vs. Wade decision:

"The landmark Roe v. Wade decision served to ensure the personal freedoms and rights of women all over the country to make decisions about their own health care and reproductive rights.

"As a physician and former Planned Parenthood board member, I understand that the decision to have an abortion is one of the most difficult a woman can make. We can all agree that abortion should be rare, but it should also be safe and legal. This difficult personal health care decision should be made by a woman, in consultation with her physician, and not by politicians in Washington.

"Democratic leaders are working hard to improve women's access to health care, and increase economic opportunities which will help to decrease the number of unintended pregnancies. And Democrats will remain steadfast in protecting the individual rights and freedoms of not only women but all Americans."

This is a High Holy day for the Libbies.

It's even higher and holier than MLK Jr's birthday.

Does anyone know if it's true that Dean has profited personally from Roe vs. Wade?

LOL. What does this mean?

increase economic opportunities which will help to decrease the number of unintended pregnancies.

Federally-funded birth control pills? Subsidized condoms?

Hey, Howard, why are you proud of being a member of a racist, genocidal organization?

I understand that the decision to have an abortion is one of the most difficult a woman can make.

If it's only a blob is tissue, why is this a difficult decission? Is it because it REALLY is a baby being murdered?

I think he's saying that if you have a real job, you have less time to have sex.

I think back to college, and I have to acknowledge that he has a point.

Perhaps he'd put it on the Internet. It could be posted at www.i-kill-babies-for-fun-and-profit.gov.

The first and great commandment: The right of a woman to kill her baby shall not be infringed.

The second is like unto it: Thou shalt not appoint judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the profits (sp intentional).

Dr. Dean should read the Hippocratic Oath again, especially "...and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion."

"I SWEAR by Apollo the physician, and Aesculapius, and Health, and All-heal, and all the gods and goddesses, that, according to my ability and judgment, I will keep this Oath and this stipulation- to reckon him who taught me this Art equally dear to me as my parents, to share my substance with him, and relieve his necessities if required; to look upon his offspring in the same footing as my own brothers, and to teach them this art, if they shall wish to learn it, without fee or stipulation; and that by precept, lecture, and every other mode of instruction, I will impart a knowledge of the Art to my own sons, and those of my teachers, and to disciples bound by a stipulation and oath according to the law of medicine, but to none others. I will follow that system of regimen which, according to my ability and judgment, I consider for the benefit of my patients, and abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous. I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art. I will not cut persons laboring under the stone, but will leave this to be done by men who are practitioners of this work. Into whatever houses I enter, I will go into them for the benefit of the sick, and will abstain from every voluntary act of mischief and corruption; and, further from the seduction of females or males, of freemen and slaves. Whatever, in connection with my professional practice or not, in connection with it, I see or hear, in the life of men, which ought not to be spoken of abroad, I will not divulge, as reckoning that all such should be kept secret. While I continue to keep this Oath unviolated, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and the practice of the art, respected by all men, in all times! But should I trespass and violate this Oath, may the reverse be my lot!"

I've long held that Dean and his ilk are perfect arguments for retroactive abortion.

A few thoughts:

Has anyone ever asked this question - "if the idea is for a woman to have the right to 'terminate a pregnancy,' why not just induce labor rather than destroy the fetus?" Where the unborn child is viable, the only rationale for aborting it in the overwhelming number of cases seems to be "getting rid of a unwanted person." We could clear out a lot of jails, homeless shelters, AIDS hospices, etc. that way. But it would be horrific. (Bill Bennett, anyone? Although I was making this argument even before he made his comments.)

Here's another thought experiment - imagine if the RNC came out with a statement saying they supported abortion so that taxpayers wouldn't have to support poor children, and especially encouraged abortions in minority communities where poverty is prevalent. The MSM would have a field day, painting the policy as heartless and racist. But isn't that pretty much what the left is doing already?

If it's only a blob of tissue, then why was Bill Bennett attacked for his example?
