Well John was a staff officer. Also, he spent the vast majority of his 38 years in the Reserves and was on active duty only a very short period during the many years of Vietnam. I always thought you got a Purple Heart at the hospital you were treated at when your unit cut the orders. That is how my men got them.

Makes me kind of wish I had put in for one when I got burned during a sapper attack. But what I did was stupid and I deserved to have gotten burned.

AD prior to the Viet Nam War as well and unless you've seen his OQR you don't know how much AD time he has.
