Women are single because they are spoiled rotten. I know too many great guys, myself included, who have been screwed over by women who later changed their minds and blew us off because we weren't perfect in every way. The pattern is, marry some really nasty guy, then have to run for their lives, then meet us and blow off a great relationship because the previous one turned out so bad. Repeat process until another total loser is encountered, then have bad opinion of men confirmed guaranteeing the next nice guy will get screwed over.
What do women want? They have no idea.

Maybe I am missing something, but from http://www.nwtf.org/jakes/turkey.html
How Well Do You Know Your Wild Turkey?
Imagine going on a turkey hunt only to find there are no wild turkeys! It sounds far fetched, but in the early 1930s this awesome game bird was almost extinct. But today, thanks to hunters and wildlife conservation programs, the wild turkey is back and thriving across North America.
Here are a few interesting facts about this fascinating bird:
There are five subspecies: Eastern, Osceola (Florida), Rio Grande, Merriam's and Gould's.
Between 5,000 and 6,000 feathers cover the body of an adult turkey. Males differ from females and have two distinct characteristics: spurs and beards.
Wild turkeys have excellent vision during the day, but don't see as well at night.
Turkeys can run at speeds up to 25 mph, and they can fly up to 55 mph.
Hens will lay a clutch of 10 to 12 eggs during a two-week period, usually laying one egg per day.
Hens will incubate her eggs for about 28 days, occasionally turning and rearranging them, until they are ready to hatch.
A newly hatched brood must be ready to leave the nest within 12 to 24 hours to feed.
A young turkey is called a poult.

Oh pshaw. Sure, there are women out there who follow that exact pattern, but there are just as many idiotic and self-centered men out there breaking hearts. Here's my suggestion to all the disillusioned men and women out there....quit dating the jerks!

Why is Dowd worried about the implications of intelligence in women? It's not a problem for her. She should worry about how a brain can be so distorted by ideology that it ceases to function. That she could discuss with first-hand experience.

You sound like you've met my older sister. She's been very successful in business, but remains unmarried because no man is good enough for her. That is no man who doesn't have the dough. And yes, I know plenty of good (but unwealthy) guys who asked me about her after she left town. I wanted to tell them to be grateful she didn't marry them. And yes, she's a hardcore liberal feminist. And she's going to be a very rich and very lonely old person some day.

Is Dowd saying her desirability dropped, because she has a high IQ? Well, what do you expect her to say? "I'm single because I am so unbearably narcissistic that someone would have to be stark raving mad to marry me?"

The trouble is, a high percentage of "psychology" research uses university kids for research subjects. There are inherent flaws in the methodology and the findings can only be applied to that particular university; they have no application in the broader population. Of course any young boy in college wants a girl who isn't quite as bright or accomplished as he is, because he's still an insecure young doofus, but that doesn't mean that he'll feel the same way when he's a sophisticated and successful man of 50.

That's not the dynamic at all. 'Great' guys who consistently fail with women aren't that great: most likely than not they are just being rejected by them for a variety of reasons.
