A day after as many as 20 armed men in military fatigues crossed the Rio Grande into Texas before being chased back by U.S. authorities, the Mexican government ordered its troops not to come within 2 kilometers of the border.

While the Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry and Defense Ministry denied their military had a role in providing protection for Monday's marijuana smuggling operation into Hudspeth County, the government said its military wouldn't be permitted in the border zone without authorization.

the Mexican government ordered its troops not to come within 2 kilometers of the border.

I think they meant that units of the Mexican Army cannot come within 2 miles of the Canadian border.

"This incident is a troubling reminder that criminal organizations do indeed smuggle drugs across our border and we need to continue to focus our law enforcement efforts on stopping it," Perry spokeswoman Rachael Novier said

And here's a troubling reminder that Gov. Rick Perry said that building a fence along the border "is a silly idea."

The Mexican government doesn't have to explain anything thanks to ALL our politicians. Our elected officials care much more for people from foreign countries than they do their own citizens. We are nothing but a means to an end....their reelections.

A very corrupt country.

There is a reason that these countries are impoverished and have stayed that way for the last 200 years.

Sorry to jump in on you. Sounds like a great selling point for freedom to bear arms. I am completely out of loop forward deployed and the most I seen of this topic is a two liner at the bottom of the TV. Well until I hit this site. Is this a regular occurance? Ashcroft should jump all over it being it is a homeland security issue. If I am out doing my duty for my country weather I believe it to be right or wrong as I swore to. Does he not have the same responsibility as his office. Bottom line protect America from foreign invasion (despite the size of the army) He has talked the talk lets see if can even walk it.

To the agents:

Kill the snake already... come on I'm sure the media would pay you some 6 figures to cause an international crisis - afterall the ingrediants are readily available... It's not like you are engaging an unprovoked frontal assault.

"There is a reason that these countries are impoverished and have stayed that way for the last 200 years."

Bears repeating. There is no logical excuse for Mexico be in such poor condition other than their government. Sad for the people.

And if they do come to the border?.....

Last time that happen, it resulted in the Battle of Vera Cruz, and the loss (by Mexico) of much of what today is the western United States. I think Baja offers wonderful opportunities for development, once we clear out the (soon-to-be) illegal Mexicans.

"There's no doubt it's Mexican military."

I say just shoot the bastards. If they are in fact "Drug Smugglers", than they deserve to be shot. And if they're in fact Mexican Military than the Mexican Government has a lot of "Esplaneing to do Lucy".

Unless we build twin 15 foot steel fences with sensors the open border politicians will stop enforcing the border at the next opportunity. Then we need to have the Guard back up the fence.

Saturate the border with quick response teams that have the capacity to totally destroy. Issue each team with body bags. Then after the incursion is over, send the bags back to Mexico with a gift tag. This sh@@ has got to stop and only one way will Mexico understand - - - don't F with us.

Well said. To modify an old cliche' : Be careful who you vote for, you may get it in the end.

At least Mexico realized it was an error to let the troops wander into our territory. Frankly, I am very surprised they considered it wrong since they're handing out maps on how to get here!

BTW, if anyone can get a copy of these maps, I'd love to have some. Anytime I get a request for RNC money, it'd be great to have one to enclose. My just writing that I won't be supporting ANY politician/party that doesn't support securing the border and removing the illegals hasn't made a dent.

The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, of Ontario, Calif., touched off controversy last week by citing what it said were U.S. Homeland Security Department figures showing Border Patrol agents reported spotting what appeared to be Mexican soldiers on U.S. soil 216 times since 1996.

Homeland security officials said the claims were overblown.

And they know this how? This is the federal response to border incursions?
