Mexico issues border ban

A day after as many as 20 armed men in military fatigues crossed the Rio Grande into Texas before being chased back by U.S. authorities, the Mexican government ordered its troops not to come within 2 kilometers of the border.

While the Mexican Foreign Affairs Ministry and Defense Ministry denied their military had a role in providing protection for Monday's marijuana smuggling operation into Hudspeth County, the government said its military wouldn't be permitted in the border zone without authorization.

...forward deployed Welcome to FreeRepublic, on your first day! Yes, this is a major and ongoing problem. Unfortunately, it seems to be largely ignored by our powers that be, which is why it has blown up out of control and the Mexican government thinks it can do as it will. Tell us more about yourself....

Yes and what makes me angry is the problems have been there all along and President Bush chose to ignore them and now it is a problem only because the media is choosing to report this incident.

I supported President Bush, voted for him twice and though I am still so greatful that we didn't have a Gore or Kerry presidency- I am very angry with this administration over the border issues.

Police hand guns vs Army 50 caliber, no contest there.

Yes, it IS a contest, since we have a president who has said "these good folks just come here to work" and that "family values do not stop at the Rio Grande."

As long as Bush is president, it is a contest.

Welcome aboard, and thanks you for your service to America!

Unfortunately, yes...this IS a regular occurrence...use this link HERE to bring yourself up to speed as to just how badly America has been sold out!

When Homeland Security head Jerkoff Chertoff downplays Armed Incursion/Invasion of America by Mexico's Military in direct operational support for Drug Smugglers and/or Illegal Infiltrator smuggling, and a week later we have this incident...and STILL La Hacienda Blanco will NOT defend America's Borders...

We are in serious Doo-Doo here!

… the Mexican government ordered its troops not to come within 2 kilometers of the border.

Will this apply to Mexican military units aiding the smugglers?

The Border Patrol has had plenty of proof all along, they have documented reports, photos, video, testimony from other agencies and have even captured Mexican Military men; but they are told to return their weapons and let them go back to Mexico. The higher ups have chosen to ignore the proof, ignore the problem, and keep their mouths shut.

Most Americans choose to not believe this type of thing happens repeatedly so the BP is frustrated to say the least. They are not trained as soldiers, not armed to go up against military and have no backup.

The reason this is finally hitting the news is the BP has had it with this volatile situation and no backup; and they are speaking out to the media even at the peril of their career.

If I may:

When the Mexican drug cartels took over from the Colombians the first thing they did was use their vast monetary resources and utterly ruthless tactics to compromise almost all civilian, police and military officials all across Northern Mexico (and a good many just on the other side). That money and aggression also allowed them to purchase state-of-the-art communications, vehicles, weaponry and their pick of the best/worst of the Mexican Army's soldiers.

Those former soldiers are called Zetas, often led by men who were trained at our own School of the Americas in high military skills and tactics back in much friendlier times. Now those skills and that superior gear is used against our inadequate border patrol on a regular basis in order to get drugs and humans smuggled into the US interior.

Their scouts learn the Border Patrol's patterns and use commo to coordinate movement - usually so successfully that the BP had no idea they went through until seeing the tracks long after the incursion. Political pressure from the upper leadership has made it plain to the BP on the ground that they don't want to hear about it or see them cited as press report sources.

The US civilians who happen to live in the path of the incursions are either in on it through money or intimidation or powerless while their pleas for help go unanswered by the state and Federal governments that are charged to protect them. Their plight motivated private individuals to form organized groups that patrolled public and private lands (with the owners' permission), reporting the incursions of illegal aliens and the cartels' missions to the Border Patrol. These volunteer groups eventually gave rise to the Minuteman Movement our President likened to vigilantes.

The US House of Representatives passed a very strong package of measures to finally address these ongoing problems. OUR problem is that the Senate, the Administration and the Chamber of Commerce is striving to reduce the enforcement parts of it while adding a guest worker (amnesty) clause before it comes up for final vote next month.

And here's a troubling reminder that Gov. Rick Perry said that building a fence along the border "is a silly idea."

According to Perry, fences serve no purpose, so I have to wonder if a mob of people pulling down the fence that surrounds the Governor's mansion would be labeled a 'silly idea'.

Anytime I get a request for RNC money, it'd be great to have one to enclose.

Some creative FReeper made 'Bush Bucks', a simulated monetary bill that had a picture of Bush in a sombrero.

He/she sent it in every RNC donation return envelope received.

Can any helpful FReepers out there post it?

Why was the Mexican military concerned with this particular operation? Did any of our people have a radiation detector? Sounds bigger than MJ to me - sounds like WMD!
