Last week at lunch, a young {20 something}, pregnant barmaid and I talked about her condition {7.5 months}. She told me {unsolicited} that she has color pictures of her coming baby. She then said, " I don't know how anyone can live with themselves if they have had an abortion"? She then showed me and my pal some pix of her about to be born, baby. There is no way that anyone can dispute what you are viewing, and it's not just a blob of tissue. The more young women see what they are carrying, the harder it will be for them to choose death for their baby.

Something else the democrats have done that have aided the right-to-life efforts unintentionally: They have placed pregnancy out of wedlock and single-parenting into a totally acceptable place in our society. Hence more pregnant teens and single women with unplanned pregnancies are keeping their children with little or no stigma.

It is a horrible circle that can happen from this setup. Abortion rights people get enough votes to make it legal, and they then kill off enough of their offspring to become a minority. Right to life supporters raise enough children to outlaw it, more pro-choice babies are allowed to be born instead of being killed, they grow up and vote to kill their offspring again. Pretty sick circle of life.

I have said in the past that the open southern borders would sway the abortion debate. I think you are right but it's a bit like having someone hit you in the head with a baseball bat to stop a headache.

I'd be curious to know how much the 'morning after' pill has influenced these numbers, and a breakdown of how many consider RU-486 to be an abortion in the same moral sense as the clinical procedure.

I would think everyone would consider RU-486 to be the equivalent of a surgical abortion, since it can be done eight weeks into pregnancy. What I simply can't understand is why some people consider the morning-after pill, a higher concentration of the regular birth control pill, to be as morally objectionable as abortion, when it prevents the need for abortion.

And what I REALLY can't understand is people who have strong opinions about the morning after pill and RU-486, but use the terms interchangeably because they can't tell the difference between the two.

Re your post #25 -- Yes, but the looming question on that front remains the financial difficulties of single women keeping their babies, as usually a one-parent household is not as welathy as Murphy Brown, and most of these kids will be growing up in poverty. I think the points raised by the kids quoted in my post #17 foreshadows a problem for conservatives, in that what kind of new support networks are you willing to support for all these babies that will now be born into poverty if abortion becomes illegal? I don't ask that to cause a flamewar, but only to mention that "no stigma" is not really the case, since poverty is seen by many as a stigma.

What I'd like to also know is this: I don't understand why it is so difficult to adopt in this country. You always hear horror stories about people waiting years and years to adopt, so instead they fly off to some foreign country and come home with a baby. If abortion becomes illegal, something has to change in terms of adoption procedures or something in this country.

(Before anyone jumps on me for bringing "feminism" to the thread let me say that S.C Chief Justice John Roberts' wife, Jane, is a member and former board member. The word feminism here is just a stealth tool.)

Starting over 10 years ago she began speaking at college campuses all over the country with her "pro-woman, pro-life" message. She continues her mission today. After learning that most young people enter college either pro-life or neutral on the position and leave as abortion proponents, FFL decided to target campuses.

Serrin is a remarkable speaker; charming, witty and unifying rather than alienating. I've seen her change people's minds in 40 minutes flat.

College is also the time when many young women do have an unplanned pregnancy and abortion. She was smart to target that audience.

But where are the pro-choice/pro-abortion/whatever people these days? They seem to have been almost muffled by their own party.
