Iraq's WMD Secreted in Syria
New York Sun ^ | January 26, 2006 | Ira Stoll

Posted on 01/26/2006 6:47:04 AM PST by Col. Bob

The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein's air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.

The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, "Saddam's Secrets," released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.

"There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands," Mr. Sada said. "I am confident they were taken over."

Mr. Sada's comments come just more than a month after Israel's top general during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Moshe Yaalon, told the Sun that Saddam "transferred the chemical agents from Iraq to Syria."

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!!! This comes from an article printed today on the Powerline blog. http://powerlineblog.com/archives/012944.php As I've written repeatedly to my local paper...

No WMD in Iraq?

“Bush lied and people died,” goes the liberal mantra. Since the Iraq Survey Group found no WMD, Iraq never had any WMD. Really!?!

Final reports of ISG heads David Kay and Charles Duelfer state, “ISG is unable to complete its investigation and is unable to rule out the possibility that WMD was evacuated to Syria before the war…There was evidence of a discussion of possible WMD collaboration initiated by a Syrian security officer, and ISG received information about movement of material out of Iraq, including the possibility that WMD was involved… In the judgment of the working group, these reports were sufficiently credible to merit further investigation."

Furthermore DOD officials cite worldwide intelligence reports pointing to WMD movement into Syria. CENTCOM cites Russian Special Forces and intelligence troops worked with Saddam's intelligence service moving weapons and material to Syria, Lebanon and possibly Iran. Numerous other sources report the same general theme, with different details without contradiction. Finally, the New York Post and New York Times reported on testimony of former Iraqi scientists indicating some banned weapons went to Syria.

Until these allegations can be disproved, I wouldn’t hang my hat on, Bush lied because we found no WMD in Iraq.

Like I always said, what filled all the mass graves? Bad Taco Bell? I think not.

Finding all the mass graves and saying there were no WMDs is like our finding the concentration camps in 46, but no zyclonD containers and saying there was no holocaust.

Yep, couple this with Stephen Hayes' report on the terror ties that are being uncovered, and also with the former head of Romanian secret police who said he KNOWS that Saddam and the Ruskies had a plan to hide the weapons, and the wheels of the liberal-scums "Bush-lied" mantra are started to come off.

Now, we'll all hold our breath for the NY Times to cover this story, right?

I am not holding my breath until the NYT, Wash Post, the networks, and all their small-time copiers report this. You could hand them actual, real-time video of these WMDs and they wouldn't report it.

So, a country in which we enforced a no-fly zone for, what, a dozen years, kept electronic surveillance on, pointed our satellites at, was able to move WMD from point A to point B without our knowledge. And we have not got a clue? Ouch.

"This will indeed be confirmed one day."

Unfortunately I think the confirmation will be by their use.

If we have this information so readily available for so long, why hasn't the CIA been looking into this. If true, such weapons would pose a vital threat to the entire region. It is time to put some excruciatingly heavy pressure on Assad and the Syrian regime -- You cough up the weapons and we let you live.

Plus, satellite photos showed convoys of trucks heading for Syria--what was in those? And let's not forget that Iraq is a very big place: already they've found fleets of airplanes buried in the sand. What else is buried that we haven't found yet? More bodies, I'm sure, but there could be more WMD.

So tell us something we didn't know.

Remember Bill Gertz's reports in the Washington Times that in the run-up to the war, Russian trucks were picked up by our satellite intel at Iraqi weapons plants carrying some large loads (covered) to Syria? We all thought that the loads were WMDs. This would tehnd to confirm that this is exactly what happened.

Oh we had a clue.
Remember the Russian "diplomatic evacuation convoy" that got bombed "by mistake" at the onset of the war, as it headed from Baghdad to Syria? Too little too late.

It's amazing what large mass quantities of material can be moved under seal of diplomatic pouch.

And remember that enough bio/chem/toxin materiel to decimate millions of people would fit into several large tanker trucks.

I'm interested to see/hear this mid February release of a tape supposedly of Hussein and others bragging about hiding WMDs from inspectors. I'm in no way ready to declare it a smoking gun, but I am admittedly curious.

Perhaps we should encourage our friends the Israelis to launch an attack on Syria while we bomb Iran. I bet that would shorten the war in Iraq and Afghanistan dramatically, save lives (on both sides), and find the WMDs.

At which point, liberals woudl simply increase teh list of people who are obviously lying.

In LibWorlkd, facts don't matter: truth is whatever serves the party and a lie is whatever doesn't.

Simple -- except when arthritis flares up.

The History Channel did a documentary on Saddam's WMD's and showed nighttime video of trucks moving "something" into Syria. Darned if I can remember the name of the documentary and even tried to find the story in the archives. Very powerful stuff and included his visuals of the many underground bunkers.
