I'm ashamed of my country today.
I'm embarrassed that America allows itself to be pushed around by a corrupt tinpot oligarchy in Mexico.
I'm mortified that a country that spends more on defense than any other in the history of the world permits armed incursions into its sovereign territory by bands of thugs supporting drug-running and human smuggling operations.
I'm angry that we make the security of foreign borders a higher priority for the U.S. military than we make control of our own.
I'm speechless that this is happening more than four years after foreign aliens entered the country illegally and killed 3,000 Americans.
That's how I'm feeling today after reading the reports of outgunned, outmanned Texas law enforcement officers and Border Patrol agents being involved in an armed standoff with Mexican military personnel and drug smugglers inside our country, north of the Rio Grande.
The Mexican military vehicles, with mounted machine guns, were, according to the American law enforcement officers, towing thousands of pounds of marijuana into our country.
If this were an isolated incident, I guess we could all afford to brush it off as some sort of anomaly. But it is not. Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security, whose main job seems to be downplaying border security issues, reported there have been hundreds of documented incursions into our territory by Mexican soldiers.
"Our government has to do something," said Chief Deputy Mike Doyal of the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Department. "It's not the immigrants coming over for jobs we're worried about. It's the smugglers, Mexican military and the national threat to our borders that we're worried about."
This latest incident, while alarming and illustrative of the problems we face at the border, can hardly be called surprising.
Just consider some of the recent headlines from the border:

Wars have certainly started with less provocation than this.
Despite what President Bush says or may believe, Mexico is not our friend. It is a country that oppresses its own people. Blessed with great natural resources and climate, Mexico is an economic basket case. Wealth is amassed by politicians and criminals – and often they are one and the same.
I don't blame ordinary Mexicans for trying to flee the dreadful conditions with which their leaders have enslaved them. But I do blame U.S. leaders for following policies that will, eventually, make America indistinguishable from Mexico. I also blame U.S. leaders for their appeasement of the organized crime syndicate that seems to run Mexico. I also blame U.S. leaders for inviting terrorists to take advantage of the out-of-control border.
These are not problems that will be solved through negotiations. These are not problems that will be solved through economic agreements. These are not problems that will be solved through diplomacy. These are not problems that will be solved through weakness.

Bush has failed in many ways as president. But in no area has he been a more profound failure than in his handling of the border and illegal immigration issues. He has disgraced this nation. And what we saw happen a few days ago in Texas, his home state, is just the latest example of his abdication of responsibility.
It's time to get tough with Mexico – and I don't mean with just words.

Where is your sense of sovereignty and propriety? Ask the americans who live in border towns (as I once did) how they feel. They'll use terms much stronger than anything you read in that article... are they "kooks"??? Are they overreacting? Spend a few years in San Ysidro or Imperial Beach and you'll find out what being overrun really is.
If a border patrol officer gets killed by rifle fire from Mexican military thugs, will the reaction in that article still be 'kooky'? How many have to be killed before that article is no longer 'kooky'?

You must not be paying attention. Mexicans are invading our country daily and Bush does everything but openly invite them. Do you wish to see the U.S. become like mexico?
This stuff has been making the rounds on some of the talk shows and FOX but, I haven't heard a DAMN word coming from the WH. As much as I support our Pres. in many things he does, this alone worries and angers me to NO end. I know there were petitions sent to the WH by groups who share my concern but, again, not a word. I feel We, as members of this forum, must use our collective minds to find a way to have our voices heard. As the song goes "somebody's gonna get Killed out there"
Do not feel so bad. My senator Kay Hutchison was just on making the statement that "we just need to see where the Mexican investigation leads". She sold Texas down the river....
Please, I get sick and tired of the drama queens on this issue. One renegade jeep going 200 feet over the border does not equate into a full blown invasion of the United States. Don't be ridiculous. On the grand scheme of things, this is piss.

Every day, in major American cities, thousands are murdered and raped. That is a BIG DEAL. This IS NOT!!! For Farah to say he is so "ashamed, shocked, mortified, stupefied, stunned, horrified, shocked (oh... did we use that one already?)" is being a drama queen of the first order. He's acting like the Mexican Army invaded and hauled off all of the women and children of small Texas city and we did nothing.

We do share common ground on this! I am not hyperventilating and calling for a freakin' wall. I contend that we should crack down hard on Mexico for their corruption. If there is a wall to be built, it should be built in Mexico.
But this does not change my belief that any armed incursion should be harshly repelled.

That sounds like something you order in a Mexican restaurant.
A wall is an expense that is "above and beyond". For one fifth the cost of the wall as proposed I will mine the border the entire distance. No one in their right mind will cross and those that do will be "magpie feed". Point is if we want to maintain the border we can do it. A few souls will be blown to hell instead of thirsting to hell in the desert. Dead is dead. One way or another the dead will not get across our border illegally.

The open borders are likely the worst problem facing this country and it would be hard to overstate the problem. There are always the traitors, and I use that word in the truest sense, who are willing to surrender our sovereignty to Mexico and the rest of Latin America.
OH beleive me I know exactly who you are and you know exactly who I am. Neither one of us will fool each other for a minute will we? I don't have any respect for illegal aliens or those who support them and will fight them with every resource that I have at my disposal. Rest assured!!!
