Nevermind.

I have really never understood Bush's Palestinian/Israeli policy.

Easy: "There's got to be some way to avoid an all-out war, which would be disastrous to our own interests in the Middle East."

Thank you.

As Sherman said "War is Hell".

At least it SHOULD be.

"The Hamas majority paves the way for Netanyahu to reclaim the leadership role in the Israeli government."

You win the gold ring. I can't wait. Bebe will kick butt and hamas needs to be totally devastated, not just beaten, annihilated. Then, they can talk peace.

Well Fatah was burning the American flag pretty openly and has killed about 50 Americans over here so far. Bush has been acting like an abused wife towards the Palestinians. Making excuses to cover their "excesses", getting abused again publicly and then apologizing to them with gifts of American Cash in front of everyone.

It's embarrassing...

Bush's policy? How bout everyone's policy, just happens Bush is here now.

Even if it were true, continuing some left-wing-minded policy of the Clinton Administration would be truly mindless.

But it isn't true. President Clinton (as opposed to the Commodities Scam Queen) never called for a "Palestinian" State. The Slickster never had a "Road Map," and he never prattled about a "Religion of Peace."

I voted for Bush and it wasn't because I expected him to adopt Rachel Corrie positions. His Mideast strategy is bankrupt. Only fools give "the Palestinians one last chance."

And before you send me some nasty reply, ask yourself, "What would Reagan do?"

Bebe will kick butt

Maybe the old Bebe, but something happened to him. He went weak-kneed when it counted in the Gaza debate. I'm sure hoping Likud has someone waiting in the wings that can take over.

Well, if people democratically choose to be a terrorist state then it at least substantially removes the argument that the "average guy on the street" isn't responsible for what the tyrants who lead the nation are doing.

Yep .. there is no veil for them to hide behind any more

I'd say that Palestinians voted for Hamas because they were sick of Fatah. Hamas's terrorism certainly wasn't a problem for the average Pali voter, but it isn't clear to me that it was the main reason Hamas won.

Now Hamas has to govern. Let them try to rev up the suicide bombing. Israel almost has the fence built, which will continue whether Netanyahu or Sharon's guy wins, and either of them will respond to attacks by going after their leaders and bases. I doubt that Hamas can do Israel a lot more harm just because they won this election.

In a year or two, what the Palis are going to have received from their government is (a) continued attempts at terrorism and a lot of extremist rhetoric; (b) continued corruption and incompetence; and (c) heavy-handed attempts to impose sharia a la the Taliban (exact same ideology).

That will be the important election, and it's important that the US and the Europeans insist it happens relatively freely and fairly. The Palis thought this time they could have decent government at home and terrorism across the green line. The next time they will have to decide what's really important to them. If they decide for terrorism, they can go on descending into squalor and being squeezed by the Israelis.

You are right that the election to watch is the Israeli one. At least the country is unified. We will seen in which direction they want to be led.

This may be a way to get most of the terrorists in one place for easier killing. ;)

Rants are difficult to read when you don't break them up into separated paragraphs.

ask yourself, "What would Reagan do?"

As I recall, Reagan pulled our troops out of Beruit after the Marine barracks were truck bombed killing over 200 of them.

So, does this rhetorical question mean you think we should put our tail between our legs and run out of this area as fast as we can?

You failed to list the most dangerous thing they may do. Give al Qaeda a haven from which to operate.

They'll now also bear responsibility for the actions that that choice may cause the rest of the world to take.......

Indeed, things are so much clearer now.
