The editorial page of The Washington Times has reviewed the interest-group and ideological ratings and rankings of the three Republican House members -- John Boehner of Ohio (first elected in 1990), John Shadegg of Arizona (1994) and Roy Blunt of Missouri (1996) -- seeking the post of House majority leader, which Tom DeLay permanently vacated recently.

Mr. Shadegg, who has compiled five 100% ratings in 10 years from the American Conservative Union (ACU), has a lifetime ACU rating of 97.6. With four 100% ratings over 14 years, Mr. Boehner's lifetime ACU rating is 93.4. Mr. Blunt, who has received two 100% ratings from the ACU in eight years, has a lifetime rating of 92.9. Over the latest three years (2002-2004), the average annual ACU scores have been: 98.7, Shadegg; 94.7, Blunt; and 90.7, Boehner.

The National Taxpayers Union (NTU), whose mission is the pursuit of limited government and low taxes, has issued a "fiscal snapshot" for the leader's race. For 2004, NTU gave Mr. Shadegg an A, Mr. Blunt a B and Mr. Boehner a B+. NTU reports the following "lifetime percentage of A ratings": Shadegg, 90%; Boehner, 14%; Blunt, 0%.

On the liberal end of the ideological continuum, Americans for Democratic Action (ADA), which selects 20 key votes each year, reports that none of the three candidates supported an ADA position in 2005, 2004 or 2002.

The candidates' lifetime AFL-CIO ratings are: Blunt, 9.5%; Boehner, 3.6; and Shadegg, 2.5. Their lifetime ratings from the ACLU are: Shadegg, 14.2%; Blunt, 12.2; and Boehner, 8.9.

National Journal derives composite conservative and liberal scores. In 2004, Mr. Shadegg's composite conservative score was 94.5, compared to 85.5 for Mr. Boehner and 80.3 for Mr. Blunt. On the other hand, Mr. Blunt, who achieved a perfect composite conservative score in 2002, recorded a composite conservative score of 90.3 in 2003, compared to 87 for Mr. Boehner and 74.8 for Mr. Shadegg.
WASHINGTON -- Rep. Frank R. Wolf, one of Virginia's most influential lawmakers, showed his independent streak when he endorsed a long-shot Republican for House majority leader yesterday.
Wolf, R-10th, chairman of a House Appropriations subcommittee, backed Arizona Rep. John Shadegg, who has been portrayed by supporters as the reformer in the race to replace Rep. Tom Delay, R-Texas, in the No. 2 leadership job. Wolf declined to make a comment publicly.
Wolf "is regarded as an independent thinker," Shadegg said, welcoming what he called an endorsement that "demonstrates the broad appeal of my candidacy beyond the conservative wing of the [Republican] conference."

Among Blunt's publicly announced supporters were these Virginians: Reps. Thomas M. Davis III, R-11th; Jo Ann Davis, R-1st; and Robert W. Goodlatte, R-6th. Tom Davis is chairman of the Government Reform Committee; Goodlatte, the Agriculture Committee.
Also supporting Blunt but not mentioned on some lists of those publicly committed has been Rep. Eric I. Cantor, R-7th, Blunt's hand-picked chief deputy whip. Cantor has been campaigning for the whip post in the event Blunt wins an election for majority leader and a whip election is held.
Shadegg is the guy. I'm sold.

Hm - there may be hope as long as they are willing to set a spending limit and not allow any bill out of the House that exceeds a certain amount. Other than that, they will continue to drive us deeper and deeper into the red. We are at $8.2 trillion and counting. The Bush administration has added $2.4 trillion to that amount. He is far worse than Clinton - who added about $1.9 trillion in eight years. So each of us has to come up with a mere $27,000 each in order to pay off this debt. Oh - that includes the kids, too. So if you and the spouse have three kids, it is time to pony up $135,000 for Uncle Sam's sake. And the bozos in Congress have absolutely no idea they are doing this to us. Or they do not care - which is what I suspect.

Shadegg isn't on the list, so it appears he didn't get any.
This doesn't show how much any of them may have received from the RNC ($226,000 rec'd) or the Nat'l Rep Senatorial Committee ($369,000) but I don't think one could fault them for receiving any of that money as it's basically out of their hands.
No he is not. Because like ALL Dinasours you fail to cosider that Clinton added that WHILE CUTTING THE DEFENSE budget by almost 2/3s! So while gutting the Military he spent MORE then Bush on Domestics meanwhile Bush has had to fight both War and Recession. BASIC economic fact for the rabid economically ignorant. Total DEBT IS irrelevant. IT is the DEBT TO INCOME ratio that EVERYONE from your mortgage Company to your Credit CARD lender looks at. This attempt to demagogue the National Debt is nonsense.
All three are conservatives, but different kinds of conservatives. Roy Blunt & John Boehner are establshment conservatives. John Shadegg is more a grass-roots conservative, which is what is needed.
