1. Must be to the right of Shays (not hard to do).
2. Must have some guts.
Who is out there who detests Shays as much as I and could give him a real fight? Frankly, I don't fear that Shays would be so beaten up in a primary that he might fall to Diane Farrell. There isn't a dime's worth of difference between them, and the next election would only be two years down the road.
Perhaps a conservative challenge, even if unsuccessful, would set the table for a future successful challenge.
I listened to this, and when it was over I was depressed. Shays is so old hat! CAFE standards???? Mr Shays, you need to get out more. Or, as Grudge keeps saying, get out of the way old man with your old ideas. You are in the way of our new technology! With GM and Ford both in the dumper and bringing out flex fuel cars and delivering hydrogen prototypes he is bitching about Cafe standards. give me a break.
Naturally C-Span would invite Shays, who is totally out of the mainstream of Republicans today, to talk about the future of Republicans. Irrelevance loves irrelevance.
Everytime I see leftist (as long as I get the NYTimes loving stories) Shays, I'm reminded why we left Connecticut. It's a perfect example of a purple state. . . even GOP is red with only a speck of blue thrown in by the Rinos to win elections.
Gary Franks was the last politician whom I admired and I hope he's doing well out of politics now.
Lincoln Chaffee? By the way, Son of a Senator is kind of salty language to be using around here!

CLub for Growth is supporting a hispanic moderate pro-tax-cut Democrat fending off a hard-core leftist Democrat challenger.
I think their analysis is right on. This is a Democrat district, so they are trying to defend the best possible democrat they can there. Because of RINOs, we need a few moderate Dems to help pass bills like tax-cuts.
Need I say more.
When they get to D.C. the leaders take them by the hand and read them the riot act.
The moderate Dem is Ceullar and he is already in office. He's a known quantity who has supported Bush tax cuts.
Again, this is a Democrat district and the choice is moderate Dem incumbent vs hard-left Dem. CLub for Growth has favored the more conservative GOP primary candidate, and this unusual choice extends the same logic into a Democratic primary.

Not saying he'd want to, but Shays could be a Senator this time next year. Enough Dems are p.o.'d at Holy Joe Lieberman to fracture the party in November. He could "pull a Weicker" and sneak in with, say, 36% of the vote, the kind of thing his mentor did in 1970.
... that is, 36% of the vote in a three-way race. Sorry.
Great. We would have another Lincoln Chafee in the Senate.
