Police sorry for arresting Cindy Sheehan, Chief calls it 'mistaken effort
WND ^ | February 1, 2006 | Staff

Less than 24 hours after anti-Bush peace activist Cindy Sheehan was arrested for "unlawful conduct" at last night's State of the Union address, the charge is being dropped and federal officials are apologizing.

"The officers made a good faith, but mistaken effort to enforce an old unwritten interpretation of the prohibitions about demonstrating in the Capitol. The policy and procedures were too vague," said Capitol Police Chief Terrance W. Gainer. "The failure to adequately prepare the officers is mine."

Sheehan was taken into custody shortly after unzipping her jacket, revealing her T-shirt, which had the message, "2245 Dead. How many more?"

In addition, Beverly Young, the wife of U.S. Rep. Bill Young, R- Fla., was also ejected from the House gallery for wearing a shirt that read, "Support the Troops – Defending Our Freedom."

According to a release from Capitol Police this evening, "it was determined that while officers acted in a manner consistent with the rules of decorum enforced by the department in the House gallery for years, neither Mrs. Sheehan's manner of dress or initial conduct warranted law enforcement intervention. The USCP also asked Mrs. Beverly Young, to leave the gallery because of a T-shirt she was wearing. Mrs. Young did not return to the Gallery so there was no need for further police action. Neither guest should have been confronted about the expressive T-shirts."

As WND is reporting, Sheehan says she intends to sue over her arrest.

"I am so upset and sore it is hard to think straight," Sheehan writes in her online diary. "I have some lawyers looking into filing a First Amendment lawsuit against the government for what happened tonight. I will file it. It is time to take our freedoms and our country back. I don't want to live in a country that prohibits any person, whether he/she has paid the ultimate price for that country, from wearing, saying, writing, or telephoning any negative statements about the government. That's why I am going to take my freedoms and liberties back. That's why I am not going to let Bushco take anything else away from me ... or you."

But is Cindy sorry for all the comments she has made about the troops and the President? There are many more honorable people that could have used her ticket.

I wish you would just take a hike. Maybe back to Venenzela and stay there this time.

Politically correct pussies. This is OUR State of the Union address, not Cindy Meehans. Having her there at all is a disruption, and I don't believe for a second it would have just been displaying her anti-Bush tshirt.

She would have started yelling and chanting, placing Bush in a position on national TV of having to react to a 'grieving' anti-war mother who lost her son. This was the liberal's plan all along, Cindy cannot help herself and is used to being used now.

This is pure bullsh*t. Even a congressman's wife was removed for having a "political" t-shirt on. This is nothing more than D.C. liberals succumbing to the dem shrill rants and protecting their own traitors.

*sigh*

When, oh when, will this mediawhore go away?

She whines about her freedoms? Ha! She's lucky she wasn't protesting the Clinton administration. The IRS would be all over her. And if that didn't shut her up and made her crawl back under her rock, she would have committed "Arkanicide" by now.

Did the guy taken away for trying to protest Clinton awhile back get a similar apology?

I think she's most upset that nobody knew who she was.

Toss her in the clink for a while, give her living martyrdom and then let her run for US senate.

The only reason they did this is because if they charged Cindy dumb ass they would have to charge Mrs. Young. They took what they thought was the best course of action. However, if it was me, I wouldn't have apologized to this ding bat bi**h.

I see that liberals insist on a nice political double standard for fellow nitwit "activists."

Oh, goody. You can always count on liberals being "fair," you know - especially when Mamma Shehadi has just got back from rubbing elbows with a cherished South American tyrant.

Insane. Does anyone honestly think that if she was allowed to remain in her seat she wouldn't start yelling out at the president? She came in dressed one way, stripped down to her stupid t-shirt. I'm sure she had other plans to disrupt the president. She would have loved to have been seen on tv screaming and carrying on, bringing a screeching halt to his speech.

"... from wearing, saying, writing, or telephoning any negative statements about the government."

I'm smelling a setup here, timed to bring in the latest brouhaha over the NSA business. I think she knew she'd be arrested, and was probably told she'd be released. Even if she wasn't told she'd be released, it worked to get her mug in the news yet again.
