Online New Mexico Tax Forms Reject Donations to Republican Party (Business as usual in NM)
Albuquerque Journal ^ | 2 Feb 2006 | Jeff Jones

SANTA FE— State government yanked the plug on its computer tax-filing system Wednesday after discovering it won't let online filers donate part of their income-tax refunds to the New Mexico Republican Party….The donation problem was discovered Tuesday evening by Terry Dean of Las Cruces, who decided to get an early jump on his state taxes….Dean, a controller for Las Cruces public schools and a licensed accountant, said he was nearing the end of the electronic tax return when it asked him if he wished to donate $2 of his $300-or-so state tax refund to a political party. He opted to plunk down $4 for the Republican Party: $2 for himself and another $2 for his wife. Dean said he punched a button to move to the next screen and, in a split-second, he noticed his entry was changed to designate a $4 contribution to the Democrats. He said he tried to change his choice three times. Each time, the online form showed the Democrats, not the GOP, were getting his money.

Demand an investigation. Demand that the AG impound the source code. Contact the US Attorney and the FEC and ask if any election laws have been violated. I hope someone in the NM GOP follows that advice.

Gee, what a surprise that the law loving Dems would have such a thing happen! I bet it wasn't on purpose, because Dems are so truthful and honest/SAR in capitals

Probably deliberate manipulation by the programmers who wrote/coded the system. I doubt the specification from the analysts would include that kind of fraud. But you never know!

It's pretty typical Sante Fe.

Most of rural NM is conservative, even the Indian reservations.

I grew up in NM and it is exactly this kind of activity that convinced me (very young) that the Democraps were corrupt to the core. The NM democratic party is, and has always been, like a mafia family.

There is a reason that we often refer to the Albuquerque urinal as the State Democrat News letter.

...in a split-second, he noticed his entry was changed to designate a $4 contribution to the Democrats.

This is a very misleading title. It doesn't reject donations to Republicans, it tries to steal the money and give it to Democrats!!

It is criminal!!! This is nothing less than attempted grand theft!

Most newspapers in large and mid-size cities are just free advertising for the democrats. The only sections of the newspaper still worth reading are the sports and comics (though even those sections aren't as good as they used to be).

Forgive me for I have sinned --- as a boy, I used to deliver the Boston Globe (late 70's). Didn't know it, but the paper stunk even then. I HAVE SINNED !!! HEAL ME !!!!

The headline is misleading. It's not refusing to let you give money to the republicans, it's STEALING the money you said to give to the republicans and giving it to the democrats.

That is MUCH WORSE.

Exactly - this is obviously some 'Rat programmer making sure that all contributions are re-directed to the 'Rat party. The question is whether it was someone acting alone or on orders.... i.e., how many 'Rat criminals are involved???

Looks like some programmer(s) are in for a little investigation. I can almost guarantee this was deliberate.

I hope they nail their asses to the wall!

Pinging Admin Moderator to link site to excerpted article; it's under 300 words so should need no further excerpting.
