NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- A teenager armed with a hatchet and handgun opened fire inside a gay bar early Thursday, wounding at least three people in what police are investigating as a hate crime.
A bartender at Puzzles Lounge told The Associated Press that the young man, dressed all in black, ordered a drink and asked if Puzzles was a gay bar. He finished his drink shortly after midnight, ordered another, then started attacking people, the bartender said. Three were hospitalized Thursday.
Police were searching for 18-year-old Jacob D. Robida, Police Capt. Richard Spirlet said. An arrest warrant sought to charge Robida with assault, attempted murder and civil-rights violations.
According to a court filing attached to the warrant, a woman in the bar recognized had recognized Robida as a current or former student at New Bedford High School. Acting Police Chief David Provencher said Robida had graduated in 2001 from the city's Junior Police Academy, a "boot camp" that teaches discipline to 12- to 14-year-olds.

I hate "hate crimes", Assault is assault, murder is murder, applying more weight to a crime because a socio-economic group was the victim is crap at best.
The SCOTUS should strike all these down.

That should be enough to put him away for a while. As a straight white guy, I should sue for being considered a second-class citizen, since if I got hit, it wouldn't be a hate crime.

Pretty easy to be underage in bars...I use to sneak in all the time, but sometimes was found out because they could put the flashlight under your driver's license and see that you altered the birthdate...LOL..

Snideness aside, I hope everyone who was hurt comes out of this OK. What a terrible thing to have happen. I don't think you need to charge him with a "hate crime"- under 21 in possession of a handgun, assault with a deadly, possession of a handgun without a Massachusetts gun license, possession of ammo without lic, and probably a dozen other crimes could put him away for life if you add up the mandatory and judicial sentences.

Hmm...so "Puzzles" (which, btw IS a Gay bar...look here and scroll down to see the listings of the nightclubs and activities) lets an 18 year old in the door? Where was the Bouncer at the door checking ID's? Why was the 18 year old allowed in? Is this common?
Has "Puzzles" been cited or investigated for this before...or because they are a Gay bar do they get a wink and a nod from the Massholes in charge?
And they served him? Notice they make EVERY effort to avoid mentioning what an 18 year old was served in a gay bar...but is the fact that they let an 18 year old into a nightclub/lounge to drink not a factor here?
Isn't this an exposure of the Gay agenda? Was this place a Chicken-Hawk hunting ground? Or a place that allows underage Gays access to alcohol and predators?
It doesn't excuse or condone the alleged perps actions...but we might be able to see some of what occurs if we filter/read between the lines what the media doen't say!
