I work on "Ho Alley" on Lamar Avenue. It's an artery for the truckers to get on I-40 from Mississippi. I've been in the drive through line a Burger King and the working girls will approach you. No policing of it here.
DISCUSSION ABOUT: "Giving their names back: This duo rescues prostitutes from anonymity and a deadly occupation"
This one of the most uplifting things I have read in a long time!

Great, more busybodies meddling in the affairs of adult women.
Did it ever occur to them that most of these women are doing this voluntarily and make more money than if they worked regular 9-5s?
Many have tried to regulate supply-and-demand. All, of course, have failed.
This is the highest form of ministry....these people are willing to risk their very lives to help those enslaved by an industry that hates them and the people who feed on it. If others can't see that the porn and sex industry is not one of the single greatest agents of harm in our world then they are simply blind.
Awesome, my wife and I were involved with a ministry called Safehouse run by Al Palmquist. We would get guys and girls off the street and bus or fly them to a different state and put them in "safehouses" and minister to them. 90% effective rate. We stopped after having our first child. Being chased and threatened by pimps was an everyday occurance.
From my reading of the story, they were offering the prostitutes an opportunity to take another path through life. Apparently they didn't pressure any of them to make the first, or any subsequent, steps down the new path. So, are they really "busybodies meddling" in the affairs of adult women, or just offering assistance, if wanted?
Unconditional love means seeing the actual soul underneath all the junk and misery. Or underneath all the pride and wealth. All those coverings are just - coverings. Much of the time, heavy burdens.
And reaching out to that soul. I am so glad to read of these people. I hope many more are doing this work, or become inspired to help in similar fashion. Soul to soul.
They're just offering help, just like offering a lifeline to a drowning person. Some people might not grab the lifeline --- and many will probably drown despite your efforts --- but offering help is not the some as meddling.
If I were the woman in such a situation I would be extremely grateful for the outreach. I've met four prostitutes in my life (long story--- for later, perhaps) and three of the four of them benefitted enormously from this kind of ministry. (The fourth one is dead. At 31.)
And as for the money made by whoring: do you think money compensates for transactions which are intrinsically defiling? Or another way to ask it is: do you think women have souls?
I hear you. No one said they should do this work with their eyes closed or ignorant of any dangers they may face.
That said, sometimes people just need to see another way. If they're surrounded by people like themselves, they never come to believe something else is possible.
I've known prostitutes, I've known drug addicts. I think it can be difficult to change this lifestyle - it seems to be a series of trying to straighten up, failing, trying again, etc. I don't think I could be there everytime someone falls, it is personally draining, but for those who are stronger than I am, and who have more faith in their fellow man, I think it is worth the effort.
If we had more busybodies like the people in this article, the world would be a better place instead of "sloutching towards Gomorrah." (with apologies to Judge Robert Bork) They are not really forcing help on these women per se, unfortunatly some do not make it but it is a worthy cause to try and it seems that many and/or most are saved.

Don't you mean Yeats?
It wasn't just the both of you. Why are our churches more worried about giving away $100,000 to a mamber of their congregation than doing some real ministry. We have a family in our church from the city, who have really turned around. The boy gave my kids all kinds of trouble for years, but now I see him and my son goofing off together before youth group. Wow! What Jesus can do for someone.
I didn't know that. I would have figured they would have in their purses whatever tools are needed in their trade, like credit card readers or something.
Many people believe that statement is in the Bible but it isn't. Actually God can only help those who realize that they can't do it themselves and ask Him for help. People who have the conviction to do this kind of ministry seem to come equipped with the kind of faith required to walk into situations like that. They need it because your're right, it ISN'T safe.
And where did you ever get the idea that they were making the money? The pimps get it. This is not your basic supermarket cashier job that they are doing, which is voluntary. These women are being abused, threatened, tortured to stay in the business. Women who call for help repeatedly and are never there are NOT doing this voluntarily.
Ping!
." Mr. Kuykendall is CCV's executive director and spends most of his time getting strip clubs shut down"
Sounds like busybodies to me as well.
Are you serious? I doubt that these prostitutes are very difficult to identify, and these people seemto know were to look.
