Because if it did happen and we were not ready, the impact on the economy would be severe. And it would also negate much of any rebuilding of NOLA. So the issue is relevant now that the country is looking at spending hundreds of billions of dollars to rebuild your state.

And as to post #49, that's the same message I originally responded to. The oil companies settle for damages when they go in to drill a well.
You never answered me whether the "ruined" marshlands are publicly owned or privately owned, so I could ascertain who the settlement checks went to. (And I don't see "waste" mentioned anywhere.)
There's no disconnect here. I assume you live inland and don't own flood insurance. If a flood comes and destroys your house, well you are screwed. Your homeowner's insurance won't cover your damage. In the areas I mentioned, the homebuyers were told that they were on high ground and did not need flood insurance. Now you have 200,000 homes that are ruined and underinsured. You think this might be a problem to say banks, the sheriff's office and the court system? If one person flooded and didn't have flood insurance, I'd say fine. But the problem is so massive, so pervasive that something has to be done about it. Couple that with the fact that the federal government's flawe design and construction of the levees that caused the damage then you can see why may be some federal solution might be in order.
First of all your ignorance is on display. Most of the folks who live in New Orleans, such as myself, are not cajuns.
Second, I drafted the lawsuit that forced Blank-o to hold the election in Orleans Parish.
Third, the feds caused the damage. Ergo, they should pay for the clean up.
Fourth, I am not arguing for money to be thrown at the problem in the typical Bush the Younger way. I am arguing for a comprehensive rebuilding program, where the damaged properties are bought, renovated and sold by a Louisiana Development Corporation.
You are correct, if you believe the block grant money is going to be wasted.
If you are criticzing Kathleen Babineaux Blank-o for cutting off the offshore oil leases then you are in fact begging for money.
Oh Yes: Why who could blame Brain Blanco for anything.
