Marcus Tullius Cicero: "Liberty consists in having the power to do that which is permitted by the law."
I would add that the truth, wherever it's seen---even displayed on the side of a truck---is not a radical position.
well don't you have issues.
Threads go off on different side points. Deal with it.
"This is an abuse of power, and its something that happens when Republicans get into power.
Detroit's a Republican town, isn't it? No?"
I do believe you forgot your /sarcasm tag.
Oops...
(Caution, pictures of the truth truck.)
I know which pictures would make me stop and think about the beauty and miracle of a child in utero along with the consequences of abortion.
Nothing could be further from the truth. That truck isn't in operation for the purpose of 'shocking' the general populace into becoming pro-life. It's cheif purpose is to change mothers' minds who are already at, or about to enter the abortion mills.
The Truth Truck certainly helps others to see the horrible truth of abortion too, but it has a limited, specific target and it has been proven to save babies' lives almost every place it travels through. Recently the driver drove around an abortion mill in the mid-west and saved the lives of four babies in just one day, and the mothers who whose minds were changed outside the 'clinic' personally thanked the guy for being there with his traveling Truth Truck. Yes, it 'shocks' some people when they see it, but it saves human lives.
It has brought many people over to the pro-life side over time. The driver volunteers his time for this mission and is paid only through personal donations, (and I assure you he is making a great sacrifice for his fellow human beings - babies - and that he has saved many lives).
The fact the police have harrassed this man unlawfully, arrested him and impounded his truck tells me everything I'll ever need to know about its effectiveness, and everything I need to know about the real 'powers' behind the persecution of this pro-life effort.
Two things:
(1). The Truth Truck is usually moving along in traffic, and who has time to read all that information about fetal development underneath the pictures under these conditions?
(2). More importantly, we are not all alike. Some people are convinced by beauty and love, others need to be shocked into feeling compassion for an aborted baby. Just as some people are totally convinced of the threat of islam through the graphic reality of 9-11, still others apparently need more bloodshed on our streets before they'll be 'shocked' into the truth.
This human trait also reminds me of the Scriptures in this sense; Jesus taught mostly about forgiveness of sins, repentence, love and mercy. He spoke of eternal life in paradise to bring souls into His fold. But He also mentioned on many occassions the shocking prospect of unrepentent sinners burning in Hell for all eternity. We are all convicted by different means, and if it takes a 'shocking' reality check for some folks to understand the barbarity of abortion, then so be it.
Call the ACLU, lets see if they will do anything about it.
Yes, I've read about the loud, blaring 'call to prayer' coming from the mosques five times a day. I've also read that while this noisy, harrassing monstrosity is allowed by city law, certain Christian Churches in the city have been ordered not to ring their bells at certain times because of 'noise ordinances'. You can see which direction this country is heading in.
That truck is Planned Parenthood's best tool. It will change no hearts, but merely harden them. It makes the pro-abortion crowd look like the rational ones. Stupid stuff like this will make sure that pro-life causes are marginalized.
Threads go off on different side points. Deal with it.
Wow!
What a remarkable textbook illustration of hypocrisy!
You scold me for keeping ON topic, "threads go off on different side posts", and then wrap up by demanding that I "deal with it"!
Well, I guess I'll give YOU the same advice you shovel in MY face: DEAL WITH IT!
You don't like what I say?
DEAL WITH IT!
LOL!
Sheesh, look who's the one who's got "issues". You don't have to get all snippy about it, do you? Well, maybe you do. I'm not your brain chemistry monitor, so I've really no idea at all as to how compelled you are to get snippy like that.
I mean, scolding someone for staying ON-topic, LMAO! Now I've seen it all!
One question though (while I catch my breath!) -- I am getting the distinct impression that you are what would be called "pro-choice" using the current jargon.
Is this not the case?
Yes, I do have a reason for asking, and no, it's NOT "being nosey."
You see, if, as it seems, you ARE "pro-choice", you are not only snippy, you are not only hypocritical, but, you would also be a disruptor, crashing a thread in which you do not "have a dog in that race", for the purpose of derailing the discussion (what further evidence of that is needed beyond your rant, attacking me for staying ON-topic?), and thus, someone who is really out of line.
So please, let's clear the air. Are you "pro-choice", or Pro-Life?
I await your reply with bated breath...
Exactly. If you don't like this group's approach, don't give them any money. If these gory pictures make a teenager or adult think twice about allowing someone to chop up their unborn child, I can't get too upset about children (who see plenty of gore in commercials) seeing a truck. Very young children are unlikely to understand what they're seeing, as it is.
Some people require shock, that's why there are a range of messages for a range of people. To support the police in their illegal censorship and imprisonment is to put at risk even the mildest of anti-abortion messages. If the city has ordinances that the citizens have voted for, then the police should do their job, but they can't make up law because they disagree with someone's opinion.
The fact is that Planned Parenthood literally hates that truck, because it takes many of their victims right out from under their bloody scalpels. The Truth Truck often parks itself right smack alongside Planned Parenthood fund raising events. The typical response by the pro-abortionists is to spit at and verbally assault the truck's driver and any pro-life supporters standing nearby. Sometimes the pro-life folks standing in support of the Truth Truck even get punched, or the pro-abortion males will expose themselves to the pro-life females. Abortionists are a sick bunch.
I'm finding that many pro-life people are opposed to the Truth Truck's operation without even reading about what it does and how effective it is. They don't like the images so they automatically think the Truck isn't effective, but the facts speak otherwise. I gotta wonder if the "pro-life" people who detest this truck are just wolves in sheep's clothing.
That truck is Planned Parenthood's worst nightmare. It will change hardened hearts. It makes the pro-abortion crowd look like hardened irrational murderers..
Tnank you for sharing your opinion.
Now, to come back on topic, would you care to explain why the Detroit Police have the "right" to violate this individual's civil rights, subject him to false arrest, intimidation, and possible destruction of property, while he has violated NO law, simply because his opinion differs from yours?
We seem to have made that gracefull morph from Voltaire's "I may disagree with your opinion, but I defend your right to express it", to the Brownshirts' Kristallnacht adventures.
It doesn't get much scarier than that -- especially when the iron-fisters are raving about how God is on their side.
I tell ya, if the "Waffen-Pro-Life-Police" contingent gets any more strident in their demands that I shut up, "deal with it", and in general, get to the back of the bus, I'm gonna feel awful... "vulnerable" until I get a wrought-iron gate to pull down in front of my monitor's "window". :)
I really hate it when history repeats itself...
I think "stumbling" might be a better term for it. :(
I knew I made a mistake just jumping into this thread.
If PP knew was good for them, they'd be funding this truck. I just don't believe this sort of tactic is effective. Worse than that, I believe it makes us appear just as whacko as they keep saying we are.
