I am not easily shocked these days, especially with a certified terrorist organization, Hamas, now governing the Palestinians. But I was jolted to learn New York City, where I live, is according to the Jan. 15 New York Daily News "the abortion capital of the country."
For every 100 pregnancies in 2004, 40 ended in a planned abortion almost double the national average of 24 of 100 pregnancies in 2002. In New York in 2004, the total number of induced abortions was 91,700. (The source was the Department of Health's new Vital Statistics Report.)
Unlike most people I know in journalism, I am a pro-lifer. When accused of this unpardonable heresy after years of being categorized as a nonreligious liberal, I quote a letter in the Feb. 18, 1990, Journal of the American Medical Association by a North Carolina physician, Dr. Joel Hylton:
"Who can deny that the fetus is alive and is a separate entity? Its humanity also cannot be questioned scientifically. It is certainly of no other species. That it is dependent on another makes it qualitatively no different from countless other humans outside the womb. It strikes me that to argue one may take an innocent life to preserve the quality of life of another is cold ..."
As a reporter, I usually am able to understand why people with whom I disagree, think and act the way they do; but I am at a loss to understand how an abortionist finds his daily vocation in deliberately, brutally ending a human life.
But having read a remarkably illuminating Nov. 29, 2005, Los Angeles Times article, "Offering Abortion, Rebirth," by staff writer Stephanie Simon, I at least have some sense of the mindset of an abortionist. Hers is not a report with an anti-abortion agenda.

Harrison, 70, "estimates he's terminated at least 20,000 pregnancies." He will not, however, end third-trimester pregnancies, even if the fetus is severely disabled, because he regards abortion at that stage to be infanticide. "Until that point," however, Stephanie Simon reports, "he will abort for any reason."
On the day Stephanie Simon was in his office, a patient, a 32-year-old college student, had had four abortions in the last 12 years. "She keeps forgetting to take her birth-control pills. Abortion 'is a bummer,' she says, 'but no big stress.'"
Harrison has no hesitation in calling himself an abortionist, adding, "I am destroying a life." But he is convinced that he is simultaneously giving life calling his patients "born again." He explains: "When you end what the woman considers a disastrous pregnancy, she has been literally given her life back."
As for the human lives he so often ends before the third trimester, Harrison's attitude, after performing a two-minute abortion that day, is described: "When he's done, Harrison performs another ultrasound (previously frozen with an image of the fetus). The screen this time is blank, but for the contours of the uterus. 'We've gotten everything out of there,' he says."
No big stress.
40%??????? Good God Almighty, that's unbelievable. I don't even know how to respond to that. Criminal, that's about all I can can come up with.
But to end a fine editorial with a gratuitous slam at Alito seems crass.
Cold feet, maybe? He may have been chary of sounding too conservative. One doesn't want to alienate all of his press buddies, after all.
I doubt they've forgiven him for speaking at Hillsdale College.
I wish they could speak to the father of one of the children in my son's bar/bat mitzvah class. His eldest daughter was born at 22 weeks. She was less than a pound. If he could have held her she would have fit in his hand. She was born in June and they brought her home in September when her birthday would have been. She's 14 years old, tiny but close to 5 feet tall. And she is perfect, physicially, mentally and in very good health.
By abortion standards, she was mid second trimester, well within the "conservative range" of 24 weeks.
Abortion "is a bummer," she says, "but no big stress."
She should tell that to her baby who was just torn to pieces, scalded alive, or stabbed in the heart, depending on the choice of her "health care provider".
This is just awful.
Think about it coldy though, that's 40% fewer liberals being born in NYC. Its not future Republican voters being killed by their Republican parents.
I guess that's one way to look at it but no amount of rationalization will mask the fact that abortion is murder. At least in this Catholic's mind at least. I have often asked Democratic Catholics how they rationalize it, and I have yet to hear a valid argument from them.
Yea that's a tough number to come to terms with. I also didn't realize the nationwide number was 24. I thought it was closer to 15.
Wonder what he'll have to say when he stands before God.
My father was a family practice physician for more than 60 years and delivered probably hundreds of babies. He was always appalled that a physician, particularly one who had delivered even one baby, could perform even a single abortion. I know he would have been sickened to know of one long practicing "doctor" who willingly performed 20,000. Dad always said that God would mete out terrible punishment for anyone committing such acts and I know he was right.
That's what brought us abortion in the first place.
Undoubtedly abortion is murder. It is a horrific crime, and I'd like to see abortionists get the death penalty.
But like I said, while I have all the symapthy and heartbreak in the world for the little children being murdered, in the great sociological and demographic and politicl picture, its hard to feel sorry for liberals comitting mass suicide.
I look at it this way. One day each of us will be standing tall before our Maker. At that point we will be held accountable for our actions. I would never be so bold as to presume what God would do in this or any other circumstance but I do believe He will take a very dim view of abortionists, either recipients or the doctors of death. Being Catholic we feel the same way about suicides. We do not own our bodies, they are a gift to us from God and are only on loan. And if we destroy them we too will be held accountable. Again, I will not speak for what our Lord will say about this because it's not my place. We will all find out on our day.
I'm guessing....."oops, my bad" isn't a gonna cut it with our Maker, knowwhutahmean Vern?
I raised the Oath with an e-mail physician exchange not too long ago (he contacted me to breate the book I'm giving away on line regarding stem cells and cloning info; www.weneedtalk.blogspot.com). He spittled back that modern doctors don't pay that nonsense any heed now. I asked him if he was an abortionists or doing abortions on demand. Never got another e-mail from the ghoul.
Thanx for the ping, Caleb.

The picture above with Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, is one of three former abortion rooms at the NATIONAL AMERICAN HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL in Baton Rouge, LA. It was open from 1986 1994. 30,000 children were aborted there. This was not the only abortion mill in the city. The doctor had this building built special to maximize his time and PROFITS.
Notice the kitchen sink with the garbage disposal. There were three ways for the doctor to dispose of the babies, an expensive biomedical incinerator, expensive biomedical waste pick-up (charge by pound) or a rather inexpensive garbage disposal. Every day Gods precious children were ground up in that disposal and flushed into the citys sewer system. Thing is this doctor of death did late term abortions, so an assisting demon had to literally cut up the bigger kids to feed down the disposal.
I have given tours of the place. It is like walking in a nightmare. The suction machine in one room is still plugged in and it works when you turn it on for the visitors to see and hear. This place is much like an abandoned Nazi death camp. Its the only Memorial like it in the country. Its a testament to Americas (and humanity's) darkest potential.
Some time after the mill was closed down, the doctor of death aborted himself with a bullet through the head.

Why do you think NYC residents have to pay a NYC income tax as well as a NY State Income tax - have to support all those abortions done in NYC!!!
[ /sarcasm off ]
Actually, the CDC has reported that there are 785 abortions per 1000 live births in NYC (I forget the year).
This statistic includes out of city and out of state people who come to New York City to kill their babies. [The 785 abortions versus 1000 live births]
The article, on the other hand, is just quoting just people who live in NYC that have abortions.
The statistic the article quotes, 40 abortions for ever 100 live births is just using stats for residents of NYC. New York City is center to Planned Parenthood as well as host to quite a few abortion clinics.
It is hog heaven for the baby killing abortionist trade... Complete with Republican pro-abort governor, Republican pro-abort mayor, and two Democratic US Senators who are as radical about abortion as is Ted Kennedy and Diane Feinstein...
Words cannnot describe.....pure evil!
Don't think I could go to that museum.
Dear God, 40 out of every 100 live births? Have we fallen that far into the pit?

Please FReepmail me if you would like to be added to, or removed from, the Pro-Life/Pro-Baby ping list...

I've entertained the thought of coming down and visiting the site ... have to pass; don't think my old heart could take it!
I agree.
I got a joke in my email today.
The plan.
Let men marry men.
Let women marry women.
Let any body have an abortion that wants one.
In a generation there will be no more liberals.
That he believes his patients are "reborn" after an abortion is astoundingly despicable and one of the grossest rationalizations I have ever heard. He is lying to himself and to everyone else.
Marvin,
It is very heart breaking. Many break down and some have to walk outside. My hope is that many people will spread news of the website so that more can learn the truth
K
The plan also depend on us doing the converse.
We've just had child #4.
Death by meat shredder comes to mind, were it not for God's mercy. Not that I would wish such a fate on anyone, but for punishment fitting the crime, it would certainly be logical justice.
Congratulations on the new baby.
