IIRC, it is supposed to demonstrate devotion to Allah

(Don't go gettin' TOO bewildered... Job, Jonah, Abraham, and a host of other proved their devotion to God through some ugly experiences, too.)

Look - I'm merely pointing out that is unfair to blame the Catholic Church for what some Fillipinos do - just as it would be unfair to blame the Protestant church for the doings in Northern Ireland. How is that changing the subject?

I was willing to take your word for it that self flagellation is contrary to the catholic church directives...I simply stated that the photos I'd seen identified the individuals as catholics. That is apparently a fact that you're incapable of grasping. And you yet again, for the third time, bring up some unrelated thing about Northern Ireland...that is changing the subject because the topic is self flagellation...not firebombing or whatever else you're trying to deflect to.

If you have trouble grasping that concept without accusing me of "liberal tactics" then there isn't much more I can say.

The problem is, attempting to shift attention to some unrelated point IS standard liberal tactics. If one begins to discuss something such as global warming with a liberal they'll change the topic to poverty in some other nation or some other disjointed thing. I'm sorry if it's offensive, but it is what you've done in 3 out of 3 posts.

They aren't the only ones who did this. There was a group of Indian/Mexicans (not sure which) in New Mexico who whipped themselves to shreds for Jesus. I visited a home in northern NM that had been a church and the ceiling beams were stained with human blood. The people thought it was neat feature and did nothing to hide it.

Ya know, there used to Christian self-flagellation types

Used to be? I do think there still are, and then there are the snake handlers and poison drinkers>

Aren't there some men (Phillipines?) who crucify themselves, also?

IIRC, yes, although the location might be incorrect.

1st Kings 18 25-29

My absolutist, favoritist "Bible story".

Every time I read it, I laugh myself silly, imagining Elijah goading them on to ever more strenuous efforts to "awaken" their "sleeping god", while they rant & implore; hack, stab, & slice themselves; and finally, huffing & puffing, slowly run out of steam, and drop to the ground.

If their tongues hadn't already been dragging the ground, a few of them might have managed to out run the crowd after the Heavenly Fire consumed Elijah's sacrifice, meat, bones, hide, alter, water, and all.

I recall MSM coverage of this disgusting practice in 1980 during the Carter failure when Iran held our people and embassy.

All Muslims do not do this. This is what the crazy Shia’s do. I’m Sunni, which is the most populated section of Islam. Sunni’s do not do this crazy thing. Instead we believe to fast on that day.
