I'm not quite there that she is an accomplice - yet - but clearly this is a kidnapping about money, financing their effort rather than killing her because they hate all infidels.

Jill went to Iraq to report on the atrocities of the Iraqi people, committed by the American military.

In other news, it was recently revealed that Daniel Pearl had cut his own throat to make the US look bad. While shaving!

I got beat up in the last Jill Carroll thread...Well I'm not going to beat up on you. The circumstances of her "capture" are very suspicious. I am concerned that they may kill her notwithstanding her possible collaboration.

she was also close to the code pink girl who got killed in a suicide blast. I dont know what to make of this.

If all they wanted was money they could have had it weeks ago. We say we don't negotiate with terrorists but then we usually do. Why didn't they just ask for a pile of money outright, instead of the release of female prisoners, which they got by the way.

I said it once and I'm gonna say it again...at the risk of facing Viking Kitties, I firmly believe Jill Carroll is not a hostage, but is working with the enemy whose real objective is not to release all female Iraqi hostages, but to get what private money they can under the table in exchange for Carroll's so-called "release".
ABC radio news played part of her audio. My first reaction was that she didn't seem too stressed or under much duress. Her voice sounded too accommodating to what she was saying. After the stunt with the German woman who ended up with a stash of marked money paid to her captors, we need to be aware that some of these may be faked captures.

I do not wish her any ill. But you have to consider the fact that if they do kill her it still wouldn't convince many that she wasn't, for a long time, a willing participant. Any murder of Westerners is excused if it furthers the agenda of the militant Islamists.
To: Maximus_Ridiculousness
The whole thing has a distinctly bad odor to it. In any event, she was there of her own volition and one as to assume she knew the risks involved and considered her goal to be worth the risks. By going there and being reckless enough to get herself captured she has already furthered the cause of the enemy. I have sympathy for her and her family in this, but I can't help but feel she is this by her own hand. Iraq continues to be a war zone and ANYONE contemplating travel there should act accordingly.

I agree that these subhuman vermin are perfectly capable of killing someone who has been working for them willingly.
I agree that if they murder Ms. Carroll, it won't prove her innocence.
But still, her innocence should be presumed. There is a lot of naivete in this world, and it really explains quite a bit. Also, what is the evidence that she's on their side?
To: SmithL
Even the MSM reaction doesn't smell right with this entire hostage drama.

What happened to "Release all the woman prisoners in Iraq"?

Note that in every video Jill Carroll is dressed better, freshly bathed and groomed better, and has a new and better "Hollywood" staged background.

Great Jill!
You volunteered to meet and "interview" baby-bombing terrorists so you could send in a sympathetic story and get paid for it!
You parents begged them to let you go because "Jill is on your side!" and "Let her go and kidnap an American soldier instead of Jill!"
Have a nice day!

I think you are right. Whether she was a sympathizer prior to this or not, her fate looks pretty bleak. It must be torture, to not know if you're going to end up on the islamic blockbuster video top ten..

Only 5 female prisoners were released. I think their damand was they wanted all female (Iraqi) prisoners released. They are probably trying to get private money under the table, and it may be taking a while for family members, or other private organizations to come up with the money and funnel to the "kidnappers". This is just my theory.
To: California Patriot
Much of what I see is not callousness but rather a simple recognition of reality. She put herself in a position of being kidnapped and held for ransom, and in so doing the aided the enemy. If she had been on the cop beat at a US daily newspaper she would not be in her present pickle and the US wouldn't have been placed in the position of appearing to have to give in to terrorist's demands. She chose to go to an area of active conflict. No one forced her to go there, or to travel about without sufficient security to assure her safety. To point out that she, and she alone, is responsible for her present situation is not callous in my opinion.

Your theory makes no sense. If they had asked for money in the beginning they would have received it right away. They don't need to get it "under the table." It would have been given to them outright.

After the German hostage was found with ransom money on her person after her release, I can only guess that the kidnappers would want to keep their true motives hidden for fear of being discovered or not taken seriously.
