gay cowboys try, as best they can, to quit one another. They marry women, start families. But their wives are crushed when they realize their husbands don't, and can't, ever really love them. "Brokeback Mountain" makes clear that it would have been better for all concerned if Jack and Ennis had lived in a world where they could simply be together.
Straight audiences are watching and loving "Brokeback Mountain" that's troubling to evangelical Christians who have invested a decade and millions of dollars promoting the notion that gay men can be converted to heterosexuality, or become "ex-gay." It is, they insist, an ex-gay movement, although I've never met a gay man who was moved to join it.
This "movement" demands more from gay men than simply playing straight. Once a man can really pass as ex-gay once he's got some Dockers, an expired gym membership and a bad haircut he's supposed to become, in effect, an exgay missionary, reaching out to the hostile gay tribes in such inhospitable places as Chelsea and West Hollywood.
What should really trouble evangelicals, however, is this: even if every gay man became ex-gay tomorrow, there still wouldn't be an ex-lesbian tomboy out there for every ex-gay cowboy. Instead, millions of straight women would wake up one morning to discover that they had married a Jack or Ennis.
Sometimes I wonder if evangelicals really believe that gay men can go straight. If they don't think Chad Allen can play straight convincingly for 108 minutes, do they honestly imagine that gay men who aren't actors can play straight for a lifetime? And if anyone reading this believes that gay men can actually become exgay men, I have just one question for you: Would you want your daughter to marry one?

"Straight audiences are watching and loving Brokeback Mountain'.
I don't believe it.
I've heard all the straight men depicted in the movie look like redneck savages and the only good people are the gays.
Who would enjoy that?
I'm not sure, but I think a woman should think twice before marrying an "ex-gay" man. Too many cases of these folks reverting back to their old ways.
Some might make a long-term change, but I haven't seen all that many who have been ex-gay for more than a few years. Maybe I'm missing some, though.
I'd sure be cautious, though, if I were a woman.
Liberal women who are f*g hags...and gay men.
The anti Christian biase of this reporti s dripping from the page. I will dance when I here of this lying liberal legacy dead tree media source closing shop.
I thought it was gonna be an article about Troy Aikman.
What are the actual sales on this tripe?
****Straight audiences are watching and loving "Brokeback Mountain" ***
They are?? Gee in my neighborhood they just laugh when its mentioned and make some sort of fag joke.
More leftist, agenda-promoting trash from the NYT. ping
Doesn't Dan Savage write sex columns in alternative weeklies?
"I thought it was gonna be an article about Troy Aikman."
The metrosexuals luv, luv, luv it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Same thing about trying to quit bothering the sheep, I suspect.
Ewe, get my point?
When the Academy Awards are over in a month, this movie will fall into obscurity. And it may not even win, some Hollywood people are uncomfortable with it. Even Bill Maher indicated to O'Reilly he wasn't interested and actually seemed embarrassed by the topic!
about 83 million now.
The movie finally comes out and preaches the old wisdom: Gay men will go after straight man and bring 'em over to the other side, and make 'em "Go Gay". You don't have to be born that way. In fact, it is never established if the gay guy was born that way or had "gone gay" sometime before the movie's start.
I was wondering if he pronounces his last name "Thavage."
Gay cowboys 83 million.
Narnia 637.8 million
Knowing that you raised you're kids to be Christians and not fornicators? Priceless.
