I agree that this movie has made a lot of money, but I wonder about that $14mm figure. Seems to me that they were using that when it first came out (no pun intended), but they have really stepped-up the advertising in recent weeks. Could they possibly have budgeted that?

As a NYer, I can see how someone in NY or SF (where I believe Savage is from) would think this is true. Obviously, it is not the case anywhere else.

Looks like everyone wants to be a victim these days, not just liberals.
It's not on the level of Narnia's success but one is a PG family film drawn on a well known set of books with a large budget and major studio. The other is an R-rated art-house film about a ridiculed subject.
By various accounts (even by folks pre-disposed to like the subject matter) the film is boring and tedious like some other Ang Lee projects. Some like NBC Today's Show movie critic Gene Shalit have seen the film as involving a sexual predator rather than as a love story. While his review was quite justifiable by the film's content itself, he was attacked by the "gay mafia" and ultimately apologized for his characterization.

I thought that was the name of the author of those gross columns in the free newspapers. He has to be one of the most vile human beings God ever gave the breath of life to. The couple of columns that I've read of his, made me want to vomit.
