Stormy Dean slams Bush: Points finger for Katrina deaths
Boston Herald ^ | Saturday, February 11, 2006 | Kimberly Atkins

Posted on 02/11/2006 3:45:15 AM PST by arbooz

Howard Dean yesterday blamed President Bush for the deaths of thousands of Hurricane Katrina victims - prompting a swift rebuke from Republicans. Appearing in Boston before members of the New England Press Association, the failed presidential candidate sharply criticized Bush for failing to respond to the disaster. “Michael Brown is testifying that he had direct contact with the (president’s) chief of staff - as the levees were breaking,” Dean said, referring to the former FEMA head’s testimony before a congressional committee yesterday. “Thousands of people died in New Orleans because the president didn’t pay attention and denied that he knew about it. . . . it turns out that wasn’t true.”

Dean - whose controversial one-year tenure as party chairman saw some Democratic leaders calling on him to tone down his rhetoric - called the Bush administration more corrupt than Richard Nixon’s. While Nixon obstructed justice to protect the presidency, “this administration has done more than that, they have leaked military secrets at a time of war to fulfill their political agenda,” Dean said. Danny Diaz, spokesman for the Republican National Committee, dismissed Dean’s criticisms. “Howard Dean’s Democratic Party lacks leadership, direction or anything substantive to add to national dialogue,” Diaz said. “The reality is Democrats fail to have a political strategy that resonates with the American people and so they resort to political attacks.” Dean also said the Democratic Party needs to right itself if it hopes to have a shot of winning back the Oval Office, and that starts with taking a move from the GOP playbook and organizing more effectively from the bottom up. The road to the White House, he said, starts with grassroots organizing in local races. He praised the campaign that helped Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon make history as the first Asian-American elected to the office. “If we ever want to win again, it is not enough to have operatives in all 50 states,” he said. “It is not enough to have a voting list as good as the Republicans. We have to stand up and say who we are.”

Dean is all over the map, someone out of control. He made some truly stupid statement about illegal aliens that painted him as someone too mentally confused or too corrupt to protect the best interests of this country.

How many times have we been told that FEMA is NOT a first responder??? So, what's the matter with fartface? The RATS saw a chance to heap blame on Bush and deliberately sat on their hands instead of acting. How many times have we been told that RATS are much abler in governing and really EXPURTS at any given time?? How many times, Dean???? Wasn't the Gov of LA and the mayor of N.O. RATS???

So Dean, a failed presidential candidate, is usually backed up by Kerry, another failed presidential candidate. Together, they have a plan.

When will the rats be asked about the millions that were given over the years to the rats who run Louisana for the purpose of fixing the levees? Millions that were given to Louisana rats before George Bush became president?

What happened to all that money?

The usual vanilla, pendantic, plodding reply to the Deaniac's antics from the RNC (can you even find it in the article?).

At least Howard the Schmuck calls a spade a spade from his point of view.

Lack of cutting-edge PR will lose the election for a political party any day.

This includes the pathetic mope who's the administration's voice to the world at the White House press conferences.

Bring back Ari.

The deaniac hasn't managed to re-write Wiki history (yet). The site says 720+ died in Orleans and the LA state total is 1,101.

I suppose it's cutting edge: It seems to be slicing the Democrats own throat.

I didn't call Dean's rantings "cutting edge" in any way, shape or form.

Republican PR from the first days of the senior Bush's administration has been terrible and we all know it. For years, posters on this forum alone have torn their hair out at lack of response.....or lame response......or the dearth of carefully-crafted shrewd responses to 'Rat lies and attacks.

You don't have to "rant" to have effective PR responses that catch the eyes and ears of the American public.

The Donks can only complain and accuse. They have no ideas or programs they can package into something the American people will buy. They talk about making their own version of a "Contract with America" for the upcoming Congressional races but I don't see it ever happening. America would reject such a package

For years, posters on this forum alone have torn their hair out at lack of response.....or lame response......or the dearth of carefully-crafted shrewd responses to 'Rat lies and attacks.

In the current surreal world of politics, assisted by a activist media machine, outrageous lies often pass for truth, and vague conspiracy theories for common wisdom. A responsible party simply has to take on the duty of refuting and exposing the untruths of the other party. Republicans, and Bush's Republicans in particular, have failed miserably.

I used to agree with this view and still do at a minimum but the fact is the LMSM has, and undoubtably will continue to, ignore any statements, press releases etc. from the WH and Pubbies. It is an almost complete blackout by the press. The only way that the WH could get coverage of their criticism without giving any obvious room for spin by the press is for W to not give speeches and instead make one paragraph statements. The press could still ignore but if that is all that is to be covered with day-in-day-out single statements they would have to cover it.

Now the the quality of the content of the WH's responses is certainly something that can be argued but the bottomline is that the WH is the proverbial tree in the forest and the press is the proverbial ear that doesn't hear and pass on what it heard.
