W won because he ran a fantastic campaign of meeting prospective voters. At every appearance, people liked what they saw and told their circle of friends.
I think Allen will have the same effect on people when he gives his stump speech. He has core convictions, and can articulate them very well.

Well that's certainly disappointing. McCain finishes a close second -- at CPAC?

Yeah, that is disappointing. We must remember however that McCain is much more well known nationally. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Here's hoping for an Allen/Rice ticket however.

Let them run Hillary (62%) and I sincerely hope they do.

"Add 19% for Giuliani. That's at least 39% RINO."

True.

A bad sign for the GOP which only validates my theory that the Party may soon fragment.

I believe everything from Giuliani on down was from last year's poll. If you check the HEO article, it references Patrick Ruffini's post from last year.

Add Rice's pro-NWO 18% vote, and it becomes worse.

When you hear Allen, he comes across as a gentleman, kind, decent, smart, and knowledgable. (He greets people and actually listens to what they say.)

There are no Ronald Reagons in the list. George Allen is good, but lacks charisma.

Does he lack charisma? I haven't seen him enough in public to know. He always makes only brief appearances.

I think he may have some charisma, but he does seem to be a little bit too subdued for a campaign of that nature. I'm sure that would change however. I mean he didn't become governor by being a wet noodle from a charisma perspective.

He'd be great. He reminds me of Jeb Bush in many ways.

Allen has to get out front. He needs to get a good speech writer.

..anyway, McCain has been running for President for at least 10 years. And if he cannot do any better than that with a decade head start, he had better re-evaluate his chances.

When it's all said and done, the base will support the upbeat, happy, Reaganesque candidate--not the bitter, profane, self-promoting candidate--and certainly no one who is a social liberal.

Quote from North Carolina Conservative interview Jan. 2006, addressing his Illegal Immigration opinion":

What are your views on illegal immigration?

"This issue must finally be addressed - it is undermining our security and the rule of law. First and foremost, we must secure our borders. Finally, this is being done. We need more personnel and more detention centers. Catch and release doesn't work. We need to invest in technology, heat sensors and a virtual fence, unmanned drones that can patrol the border and use infra-red sensors to detect people crossing at night.

We should not reward illegal behavior through amnesty. This will only beget more criminal behavior.

We must reform legal immigration. We need a guest worker program to fill the needs of employers. The guest workers must be checked out and have background checks, so we know they aren't terrorists or criminals.

We also need to expand seasonal visas for people who come just to work and not to live here. We also need to make it easier for people who come here legally to become citizens."

I wish he added “We need to deport ALL illegals” somewhere in his dissertation.

George Allen falls short in the all important "charisma" category.

I think Giuliani would destroy Hillary in the election as probably would McKean.

Not sure George Allen could beat a strong Democrat, though.

not surprised ... Allen is made of the "stuff" that Republicans and Americans, generally, like in our national leader. Name recongnition, his alleged weakness, will come in time ... let's get him past the Senate race in '06 and see how he does on the stump ... having watched his run for gov, I'd say he'll have a leg up on his competition.
