Good Morning America took took a double-barrelled blast at the Vice President Cheney this morning over his accidental shooting of a quail-hunting companion, suggesting the White House might have tried to cover up the incident, and also calling into question his version of events.
GMA did at first describe the accident as having occurred because the victim, attorney Harry Whittington, failed to observe the quail-hunting rule by which hunters remain in a single line as they advance, indicating that the accident occurred after Whittington left the line to retrieve a bird from the tall grass.
But GMA host Charlie Gibson later claimed that there was "growing political fallout" from the incident, wondering:
"Why didn't the White House tell everyone when this accident happened? Why did they wait so long and did that make a bad situation even worse?"
Normally, the MSM loves to hate talk radio and the pajamahadeen of the blogosphere, but when it suits their purposes . . . ABC White House reporter Jessica Yellin stated that it took the VP's office nearly 24 hours to go public with the incident, adding:
"That delay has prompted speculation online and on talk radio that perhaps Mr. Cheney was hoping to cover up the incident.
So GMA wouldn't offer up the cover-up conspiracy theory on its own, but used the convenient hook of reporting that others - those disreputable new-media types - had.
Gibson then interviewed Kathryn Garcia, the youthful reporter at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times who broke the story. Garcia, manning the paper's news desk on a sleepy Sunday morning, had this world-class story fall into her lap when ranch-owner Katharine Armstrong called in and couldn't find the reporter she was looking for.
Gibson tried to lure Garcia into second-guessing Armstrong and Cheney's account of the accident:
"I know that she told you that Mr. Whittington did not follow protocol and came up from behind the VP and didn't announce that he was there having gone off to fetch a quail. But we've talked to a bunch of hunters who say they've never heard of that, that there's no protocol like that. That the real problem is that the shooter has to be aware of where everyone in his party may be. Do you know anything about hunting protocol?"
The engaging Ms. Garcia wouldn't buy into Gibson's theory. Disclaiming much knowledge of hunting, she did allow that while "you're supposed to look before shooting, I think it would have been smart for Mr. Whittington to announce his presence."
Sorry, Charlie!
It took the vice president almost as long to report this horrible accident as it did the swimmer to report his little driving error!
I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than ride in a car with Ted kennedy.
Heard this on Minneapolis TV last night; What led VP Cheney to shoot an elderly man? Find out on Eyewitness News at 10.
These people are right though. It could really hurt W's chance for reelection.
When will the bloodthirsty Cheney be stopped?
Those folks on the alphabet channels are some sick pukes.
What about the Vince Foster cover-up.
They are blogging (with all seriousness) about Cheney doing this on purpose, sending a message, deliberate attack, waiting to see if he died (coverup) etc.
Perhaps the GMA staff hangs out on DU or daily KOS, because only at those nutbins are people speculating these crazy tinfoil rants.
"Online" = The kook left blogosphere. Before the day's out, they'll cook up a conspiracy the likes of which Oliver Stone has never dreamed.
What coverup? People always commit suicide by shooting themselves in the back of the head.
I saw it this morning and then switched over to Today. They were not trying the "cover up" angle. Then I watched Fox, they were making a big joke out of it. Then I had to get my son ready and out for school.......
I'd like to know why you are a liberal MSM sycophant. It happened on a private ranch and if you really wanted to get moonbat conspiratorial, why did Cheney take the blame, another hunter could have easily done that if they wanted.
LOL--new tagline :)
What these city idiots do not understand is that this is a nation of hunters. Everyone understands accidents can and do happen. Instead, these utter morons expose themselves further by trying to make this more serious than it is.
Man, these people are over the edge
That's true. A friend and I were hunting pheasants in SE Wisconsin. We decided to walk over a ridge to another field. As we topped the ridge, we discovered another party working that field toward us, about 35 yards away. Just then a rooster rose and flew the line. These guys blasted away right toward us. We were lucky to have a deadfall to drop behind. Our dog wasn't in target range, thank God.
The MSM has been reporting 'buckshot'. A lot they know! I'd hate to waste my time looking for a quail that had been hit by a 00 shot. Sheesh! On another post I read that it was a 28 guage with #8's.
SHOOT IN HERE AMONGST US,
ONE OF US HAS GOT TO HAVE SOME RELIEF!
LOL yes and they always clean up the blood from around the area where they were shot to.
I think what he really wanted hidden was the reason he was carried out on a stretcher. And it wasn't for just a "twisted ankle". Twisted something, for sure, but not his ankle.
Remember also, exactly when this happened? I do. It was when he was undergoing some legal investigation concerning his sexual harrassment of Paula. I think womeone wanted to take pictures of the Presidential Member for court evidence, and der Schlickmeister underwent some plastic surgery on the hush-up so he could escape the charges he was facing. She had already described the offending member, and they were only needing some collaboration of that description to go to court.
He was laid up for a while, then walked on crutches whenever he went out, and was always sort of bent over so no body would bump into the sore spot, or ask; "Hey, Bill, why the bulge down there?"
Wow, what rage. All that venom for just wanting to know?
I'll bet you want to know also, and if there were a thread with some breaking news on the subject, you'd rush right to it.
Time to get off your high horse.
