Oh yeah... how about Ecclesiastes 10:19 then?
A feast is made for laughter,
and wine makes life merry,
but money is the answer for everything.
Some problems ... I've never seen any evidence of money solving spiritual, moral, or psychological problems. I've seen plenty of evidence of money exacerbating or magnifying these problems, though.
Let's see what Randy Newman has to say about this:
"They say that's money Can't buy love in this world.
But it'll get you a half-pound of cocaine And a sixteen-year old girl.
And a great big long limousine on a hot September night.
Now that may not be love, But it is all right "
What jumped out at me is that the happiest people live in rural areas. It explains why the big cities vote Dim by a larger degree in highly populated areas.
Might not "buy" happiness, but sure improves comfort.
Ask a poor person...
These kind of studies are the oldest commie trick in the book. They will tell you that poor people are happier so you will accept being milked of all your money by the government. It is the people with money and freedom who are really poor, they tell us, be happy with being a slave for the state!
Gee, and all this time I thought Sophie Tucker said that.
I should think a person's own experience would illustrate the truth of the principle, if he would just think about it a while.
I agree. I'd much rather have money to provide for my family and keep them in a safe and comfortable home versus not having any money and having to worry about paying the mortgage, schooling, or even where our next meal is coming from.
The best things in life are free
But you can keep them for the birds and bees
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want
You're lovin' gives me a thrill
But you're lovin' don't pay my bills
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want
Money don't get everything it's true
What it don't get, I can't use
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want, wah
Money don't get everything it's true
What it don't get, I can't use
Now give me money
That's what I want
That's what I want, yeah
That's what I want
Well now give me money
Ow, money
Wow, yeah, I wanna be free
Oh I want money
That's what I want
That's what I want, well
Now give me money
ow, money
Wow, yeah, you need money
now, give me money
That's what I want, yeah
that's what I want, yeah
I'd agree with this article.
I've known some rather wealthy people for decades as well as people who are chronically poor. The poor stress out about money, but the rich stress out about everything.
Nobody wants to hear a whole bunch of anecdotal stories about the "miserable rich" but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
Being rich might not make me happy, but being able to pay the bills sure does.
You guys/girls crack me up!
What I'm saying (backed by scripture) is that money is a tool, not an end to a means.
It can buy independence but if you don`t have anything to do, or don`t have any goals it can turn your life into a prison without realizing it. It`s not how much you have but what you do with your time that counts.
The most screwed up people I`ve ever met in my life are rich, without a doubt! They get it in their minds that they don`t need goals or don`t need to work at anything because they got money, they have "success" and what happens is they lose their will, their lives turn empty, hollow.
I use to work for a spring water company delivering water all up and down Park ave and 5th ave near Central Park, this is where billionaires live, and you wouldn`t believe how screwed up some of them are. They do absolutely nothing, just completely shut themselves off from society spending all their time indoors getting everything delivered to them.
I remember one delivery in particular on Park ave, the doorman said he had been working there for 15 years and not once had he ever seen the guy I was delivering to! It was true, I use to leave the water right outside his door for years and I guess like a mouse coming out his hole when nobody is around, he would take it inside after I left. He would have everything delivered to him, food, water, laundry. Very bizarre and sad.
They needed a study to figure this out?
Good grief.
Someone else basically taught the same thing 2,000 years ago.
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money...So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
This may be, but I'd rather be miserable and rich, than miserable and poor.
