Whittington Back in ICU (FNC Reporting Minor Heart Attack)
WJIM-AM | February 14, 2006 | be-baw

Posted on 02/14/2006 10:09:50 AM PST by be-baw

I just heard from a local radio reporter (during Rush newsbreak at approximately 1:00 p.m) that Whittington "may have taken a turn for the worse," and was put back into intensive care.

You lose medals by being disqualified. But maybe they cheer when Americans don't win. Keep in mind that some of the broadcasters working for NBC in Turin/Turino are Canadian.

If Mr.Whittington's condition deteriorates, I actually think that politically speaking, it might not hurt Cheney that badly. Right now, aside from the press going bonkers, most people think this story is amusing. Nobody thinks Cheney did it on purpose, so if the person he shot is more seriously injured than we initially believed, the comedians will lay off, and people might be more sympathetic towards the Veep for what he accidentally caused.

Husband says some pellets were likely free floating objects until they attached to something... most pellets attached immediately.

He suspects this pellet floated until it attached to the membrane.

"And what's up with FoxNews? The headline on the website reads:

Birdshot Migrates Into Cheney Victim's Heart
"

Fox News gets breaking news wrong virtually 100% of the time. It's a mistake to think that Fox News is a reliable place to get correct information when things are breaking.

I'm not sure which of the 24-hour channels is the most accurate in these cases. I use CNN, though, despite their political bent. They seem to get the facts more closely to correct than the others.

Sure, and a reporter could get hit by a bus on the way out of the hospital as well.

Now you are just trying to cheer me up.

6 shot in a 28 is the same size pellet as 6 shot in ANY gauge. Same for ANY size shot.

Per the Associated Press:

(AP) WASHINGTON The man shot by Vice President Dick Cheney has shown signs of having suffered a heart attack due to his wounded, medical doctors said Tuesday.

Per NBC:

Doctors in Texas say some of the birdshot that Vice President Cheney accidentally fired at a fellow hunter over the weekend has lodged in the man's heart, causing a minor heart attack.

Doctors say Harry Whittington is still in stable condition, and that he showed no chest pain or other signs of a heart attack. They say they have been watching for movement of the birdshot within the body of the 78-year-old man.

The man shot by Vice President Dick Cheney experienced a heart irregularity after birdshot moved into his heart.

I had to turn off Fox. The two infobabes (yeah, I know one's a guy) were breathlessly commenting on the patient's condition by putting the worst possible construction on it that they could. Two really rotten drama queens. Sometimes I hate Fox for the liberal airheads they hire.

I don't imagine those doctors are use to being treated like that. They'll surely tell their friends.

I don't know, exactly, but I remember hearing the term from Public Relations flacks at least two decades ago.

Thanks. I didn't realize it went so far back. A "trade" term that has just recently become popular with the rest of us, perhaps.

It's the size of the shot, not the gauge of the round. You could have a 28 gauge rifled slug, which would be as big around as your fingertip. This was very small #9 shot, and your hubby was correct on the size.

That it wasn't a typical heart attack that an average joe would think of

That it is a medical term they use in cases were there is an irritation to the heart area

They are keeping him for 7 days to just keep an eye on him

The birdshot traveling to this man's heart can be fatal.

It would have the same affect as a blood clot/occlusion on his coronary arteries but in this case anticoagulants won't dissolve the blockage and they can't "stent" the blockage - I would wonder if they could attempt to surgically remove this.

A cardiac arrthymia could be fatal for this poor man.

Cheney most likely is distraught over this I would think.

"You can't get BB shot in a .28 gauge shell.
"

Not commercially. You could load them yourself, though. You could even do buckshot, although I can't imagine why you'd want to.

Commercial 28 gauge shot shells are limited pretty much to 7 1/2, 8, and 9 shot. The local Fleet Farm here only has 8.
